Default Lets See Some Letterheads and Envelopes

I've always liked the look of vintage letterheads and the envelopes of various teams. I'd like to see what you guys have out there. You can also show sporting goods letterheads and advertising envelopes as well. Here are a couple of mine.

I have a bunch of minor league letterheads, but I don't want to hog the thread so I'll just post one and then some more after others have a turn.

Great items guys. I've noticed one thing Dan, George Trautman must have been a busy dude. I've seen several correspondence with his name on it.

Yeah, he was the head of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues and I think almost all transactions had to go through him. I got a big slug of his correspondence from Jonsstats on ebay recently.

Andy, great letter!! How much of that Stuart stuff do you guys still have?

Default Stuart

Hi Dan,
We held on to some of the items that we liked such as a really nice oversized Billings team photo, as well as a few other 8x10's from that team. There's also a nice Pirates signed ball but unfortunately, without Clemente. We also have about 5 of his minor league contracts. I don't think there's any more Lincoln items.

Great thread! The boxing stuff is incredible, Adam! Especially the Cassius Clay.

This is an envelope from Ben Cheney....he used to own the Tacoma Giants and also founded this team (that I didn't know of).

http://www.seattlestuds.com/

He owned Cheney Lumber and the envelope looks like a 2x4. The back of the envelope claims Cheney Lumber was the "Originator of the eight foot stud."

Always loved this letter not baseball but very neat. John Cullen Murphy was a friend of mine and was the illustrator for the Prince Valiant comic strip among many other accomplishments. Also note the address he lived at the time not very far from Lou Gehrig in New Rochelle. Cool content and a great Saperstein autograph.

Many years ago Ted Williams' son stated in an article in SCD that 80% of his father's autographs in the hobby were fake and if collectors wanted his opinion on their autographs they should send him a copy and he will offer his thoughts.
I had an autograph a friend gave me back in the early 80's and wanted to be sure it was authentic so I sent Jr. a copy. Two years later I received this in the mail. I no longer have it as I sold it with the photo I had autographed.

Can any of you guys that have an early 20's White Sox letter take a close up picture of the red, white and blue 1906/1917 stamp that sits above the date? I'm working on a project and need a close up photo.

Default More letterhead

Here's a diverse group.

On the Comedians vs. Leading Men letter, note the term "Temporary Letterhead". Is there such a thing as permanent letterhead?

The Bend Rainbows letter refers to Kurt Russell the actor, a good ballplayer before his rotator cuff blowout. Gotta like those pre-Snake Plissken baseball items.

This one isn't quite as ornate as most of the others, but I like it a lot.

When I was a kid, the governor of CA came to visit my home town.

I assume that in most places when this happens, the first person to meet him would be the Mayor, the Chief of Police or somebody else "official", but when it happened in my home town, this just turned 14 year old kid jumped inside the limo before the Governor had a chance to get out.

He politely declined my autograph request, but had me give my address to an aide.

Default PCL letterhead

Left coast collecting bias notwithstanding, there is some gorgeous PCL letterhead out there.
The Sacto letter references the burning down of the original Edmonds Field, directly explaining why Solons programs from that year aren't easy to find today.
The Portland letter references PCL Hall of Famer Ad Liska's 1945 championship ring presentation.

Default Baseball letterheads

Really an interesting thread & beautiful vintage letterheads!

Not prewar, but I have two cool letterhead/ letters to contribute that I own in my personal collection:

The first is a letter from Nolan Ryan to Angels GM Harry Dalton during his contract negotiation for the 1975 season. The handwritten sarcastic comments are in Dalton's hand. I also own all of the hand written negotiating notes from three of Nolan's contract years with the Angels in the hand of Angel's GM's Harry Dalton and Buzzie Bavasi. Back stage enlightening stuff, when you get to see how ruthlessly team GM's negotiated with players as recently as the 1970's.

The second is a personal letter that I received from the Commish, Bud Selig following the Armando Galarraga "Almost Perfect" game in 2010. I lobbied to have Selig overturn umpire Jim Joyce's obvious blown call that prevented good guy Galarraga from being credited with MLB's 20th perfect game. After receiving the letter I subsequently got Galarraga, umpire Jim Joyce and Tigers skipper Jim Leyland to sign the same letter.

Great items Dave as usual. I really like the Beaver letterhead.
