children
I am more interested in how many children we all have...
interesting to see if many collectors here are unmarried hermits or actually family men....that may help determine the health of the hobby....when you have nobody to share/give your collection to, I think it will harm the hobby long term.... I have 3 young children... |

Scott, my children have been hearing 'baseball' from every male in the family (and some females), since they were born. I have a picture of their first Christmas with my Dad trying to get my son interested in a baseball.
Nada. They do enjoy going to games with me, but that's the extent of their interest.

And I'm an unmarried hermit. I got one of my nieces interested in baseball, but she will never be a collector. |

36 years old with two boys (almost 4 and 1 and a half). My almost 4 year old knows that he has to be "gentle" with Dad's cards. Unfortunately, we cannot teach him to be gentle with his brother.

63, three grown kids, married 37 years, I remember buying 100 packs of 1958 Topps at a time at the supermarket, the lady asked me if my Mother knew what I was doing. That's when I learned that you needed to have your own means (cash) to be independent. I have been ever since. Baseball cards have been a great way to learn basic math and I highly recommend them to the younger generation. Just collect the older stuff

I'm almost 65. I collected when I was a kid, in the early 60's. When I was a teenager, my mom threw everything out. But it's okay, I got everything back plus lots more.
I collect cards of old Jewish players, and old Hall-of-Famers. I have sets from the 30's, 40's, and 50's. But the cards I love best are the tobacco cards. I have a hundred-twenty t206's, and a hundred-fifty t205's. And my favorites are the Obaks. I have ninety of them, and I'm always looking for the guys I don't have. My son isn't too interested. My daughter is, but up to a point. I'm thinking grandchildren are the key. Happy collecting, however old you are! |

Damn, just moved into a new age bracket today. Cheers!
I have an ex-wife and a nine year old daughter who enjoys sports. I am an active hermit (if that's possible)... I just like being outdoors (usually in solitude), and living in the central Washington allows me the opportunity to go snow skiing at Snoqualmie, fishing the Columbia River, and hunting the shrub steppe in the Cascades backcountry all within a thirty minute drive. 61, married with 3 kids. Twin boys turn 40 next year. Both play fairly serious brands if ball in wood bat leagues here in CA. Had the opprtunity to play in a father-son tournament last year, my first stint on a field in 43 years. Knees told me to forget it. They love playing baseball, a priority in their lives.
Both are in that stage where other things are pre-empting collecting, but they both have remnants of their collections from the eighties and salivate when they see the monster in the bookcase and closet!! But my grandson is the complete opposite, not into sports at all. Go figure.
