This is funny to me. I received emails and public opinions not to cut this strip. You guys want singles. Speaker (VG) has a 1/2" crease in the upper right edge. Every other card (9) could easily be cut to NM/MT+ condition. (If cut properly).

I don't want to be the one to cut this up, it's to nice.

Who would you want to cut up the strip for you, is there someone like PSA/SGC who could do it for you?
Just make sure that the hofers are cut just right so they could grt a real grade from SGC/PSA.

Let us know what your going to do.

I would really like to have that card!

There's two examples of W590 strips graded by PSA to date. Alexander PSA 2 and Max Carey PSA 7. This strip could be very cheap. I'm not going to be responsible for this strips demise.

W590s are next to impossible to find. Check out the W590 Gehrig PSA Authentic on eBay right now - over $300 already. I have my two Bobby Jones W590 Rookies on eBay as well and both are doing very well. The best part of these strips is that they've got actual photographs of the athletes, as compared to W512s or W515s.

If you can get your hands on them, go for it... but as you've noticed, the borders are very tough. From the looks of the 10 card strip above, PSA/SGC may grade only a handful if others are sacrificed for their borders.

Good luck, great item!

The Gehrig is considered by some to be his rookie. Some W590s are common, some are very rare including some newly discovered variations. I sold my W590 sheet and all my strips for almost nothing a few years back when this set was not well known or liked. Things have changed and the interest is now greater for some reason.

Always WANTED W590 variations

Alexander "House of David"
Frisch "St. Louis NL"
Speaker "Newark"
Youngs "Former Right Fielder"

A question I have if someone cuts this strip into singles, do they get a trimmed grade because the cut is current, newer than when produced? Also, I am surprised none of the board members have made an offer on the strip, is it over priced? If there was a Cobb or Dauss I would consider buying it.
Wouldn't the Alexander go for close to the asking price graded?
Joe

I sold a same strip (same 10 cards) in roughly the same condition, about 3-4 years ago for about $250-$300. I got my price by just adding up the value of the cards in EX and thats what I got for it. I remember it did take a while to sell. I think the market has changed on uncut strips. I really didnt put a premium on uncut strips when I priced them. At one time I had quite a few from many sets, W515, W516, W517, W551, W572, W573, W560 sheet, W590 sheet and strips, But all sold easily and fast lately.

And to answer the other question I would think the cards (if strip is cut) will all get an "AUT" Authentic grade from SGC if it is sharp. I have had about 20 strip cards graded by them in last 3 months, and only 4 were graded with a number grade. Many of the ones I sent in had fairly sharp corners and I think they believe they were not a vintage cut or something. I dont know how they figure that out.
