Default 19thCenturyOnly July 18th Summer Auction - Now Open For Bidding

Posted By: Seth Nagdeman

The summer auction is open for preview at www.19thCenturyOnly.com. Bidding will open on Wednesday, June 18th at 12PM EST, and the auction will end on July 18th at 11PM EST. Catalogs will be mailed to all registered bidders. If you are not already on the registered mailing list, once you sign-up I will send you a catalog.

The 391 lot auction includes one of the largest graded Old Judge offerings seen in quite some time. This includes 100 graded Old Judge cards many of which are Hall of Famers, and premium Old Judge’s such as Maroons, and two player cards.

Many scarcities in this auction that you won’t want to miss. There are rare cabinet cards including an 1886 cabinet of Harry Wright, and an 1888 cabinet of Tug Arundel. Rare ghost overprint T206 error card of Roger Bresnahan & Bob Rhoades. A dozen Cobb cards. Low population cards with several being the highest, and only grade known.

There is an enormous selection of over 100 lots of E-Candy cards. This includes E90-1, E90-2 & E90-3 American Caramel, E92 Croft’s Candy, E92 Dockman, E92 Nadja, E93 Standard Caramel, E94 George Close Candy, E95 Philadelphia Caramel, E96 Philadelphia Caramel, E97 Briggs, E97 Briggs Proof, E98 “Set of 30”, E99 Bishop, E101 “Set of 50”, E102 “Set of 25”, E103 Williams Caramel, E106 American Caramel, E121 & E122 American Caramel, E123 Curtis Ireland Candy, E210 York Caramels, E220 National Caramel.

There are over 100 tobacco cards including T200 Teams, T204 Ramly, T205 Gold Borders, T206 White Borders, T207 Brown Borders, T210 Old Mill, T212 Obak, T213 Coupon, T215 Red Cross, T202 Hassan, T222 Fatima, T3 & T9 Turkey Red.

Also included is a large selection of WG2 & WG3 Fan Craze high grade PSA cards, scarce type cards, bread cards, regional issues, 19th century cards, post cards, Sawyer Biscuit, R306 Butter Cream’s, Goudey Premiums, P2 pins, Cracker Jack’s, Sporting News & Sporting Life. There are autographs which include vintage team baseballs.

I’ve done my best to proof the lot descriptions prior to the preview being posted. If there are any typos that you see, please email me, and I will make the adjustment.

Hope you enjoy the auction ! I will post a reminder on this thread once bidding is open on Wednesday. Thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,
Seth

Seth,
Great selection as usual. One problem though on lot #370. I am so tired of seeing this PSA mistake...the card is not the rarer Pete Wood (a pitcher) but George Wood (the left fielder). PSA label mistake here. You may want to note that in your auction.

Joshua,

Thank you for pointing this out. The lot description has been updated and I will be resubmitting the card to be labeled correctly. It will go to the highest bidder with the correct "George Wood" label.

Best,
Seth

Hi Seth,

Thank you for posting your auction. In the description for your e99 you say that it has the rare light blue background. Please forgive my ignorance, but could you point me to the source that light blue is rarer than the other colors? I would love to find a ranking of color rarity. Thanks.

Dan,

In the auction description I mention, "This card has a scarce light blue background". I am not saying that blue is scarcer than red. I would rate both red and blue as scarce. I updated the description to remove the word "scarce" to prevent any confusion. I could see how you read it that way. Thank you for pointing that out.

PSA has graded one Dillon (PSA 1), and SGC has graded three (SGC 10, SGC 20, SGC 30). There is no designation of color out of the four (total population) that have been graded.

If you see anything else, please email me directly at seth@19thcenturyonly.com.

Seth

Hi Seth,

Thanks for the clarification. I was hoping you had a source I was missing on Bishops. I look forward to bidding in the auction.

Hi Seth- purely for the sake of accuracy, Harry Wright never played alongside Alexander Cartwright on the Knickerbockers. Cartwright moved to Hawaii in 1849; Wright didn't join the Knicks until a decade later.

But great cabinet, and why did they only grade it Authentic? Nothing was wrong with it, as far as I could see.

Edited to add you explained the reason for the Auth. Still looks great to me.

Barry, Thank you, I've adjusted the description and removed "alongside Alexander Cartwright". To answer your question about the authentic grade, it is specified in the description of the lot. Take a look at the 2nd paragraph. It's a great cabinet.

Jim, Yes there are PSA8's and PSA9's in the auction, mostly WG2, and WG3's. You can preview the auction at http://www.19thcenturyonly.com
