Default Who Is Authenticating Autographs for PSA Now?

Posted By: Richard Simon

I wrote an e mail to PSA asking them the above question, and this is the answer I received:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting PSA/DNA. Jimmy Spence is still helping us out authenticating but he has not moved to California. Steve Grad and others have made the move. The move from the PA office to the California office was to assist processing orders as we have always had our main offices in California.

If you have any further questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call us at (800) 325-1121 and a customer service representative will be happy to assist you.

Thank you,

Brian Floren

I e mailed a follow up to Brian Floren (whoever that is):
You stated that Jimmy Spence is "Helping us out authenticating",,,, I don't understand what that means.
If I submit some items to you, how will Jimmy be looking at them, when he is in PA and I am sending them to California.

Here is the reply:

Hello,

The option is there for us to send the item to him as well as digital scans etc.

Thank you,

Brian Floren

Does anybody here think that Jimmy is authenticating any items?

Rich,

Keep us updated on this. Have you placed a phone call yet? I don't know if Jimmy is authenticating anything but how does 'Richard Simon, PSA/DNA Authenticator' sound?

Get that resume paper ready!

Your site is great!

Yours,

Cap

I am picturing Richard sitting there gritting his teeth as he reads that. My guess is that is the last thing that Richard wants.

Any speculations where Spence will be heading when his contract is up? SCD Authentic? GAI?

Well according to reports, he would be out of the business for a year so he has plenty of time to think about it.

Yes, I received your letter yesterday. (About the time the door knob broke). When you asked how I was doing. Was that some kind of joke?- Bob Dylan

The rumor going around is that he has a one year non compete clause in his contract, meaning he cannot authenticate (or maybe he cannot even be in the business in any way) for anyone for one year.
