R311 National Chicle Salesman's Sample and Card Hanger

With a recent pickup I am not sure it adds light to how these cards were distributed but it's neat to see displays and chat about them etc....

I had the green little "insert looking" ad piece (on the right) for quite some time and have shown it before. This Salesman's Sample envelope came with a piece of cardboard, to hang on the wall, and to my surprise was identical to the one I already had with the white and green wrapping around it. I surmise that the little green and white wrapper came in the envelope, wrapped around the cardboard, to disburse the cards. I wonder if a salesman just dropped off the envelope at a retailer and went onto the next one? An early form of marketing....

I find it interesting that the checklist on the envelope, doesn't match the checklist on the green and white wrapping.

Also intersting that they call these 1935 and not 1936 like the SGC guide.

And it's also interesting that the ones listed on these two checklists are the easiest ones to find ... and that the ones that are hardest to find are not listed there.

Perhaps these were printed in 1935 and 1936 ... with some (maybe those from 1936 only?) being short printed.

The only thing I know for sure about the printing of this set is ... Earl Averill was printed above the Detroit Tigers team.

I've been pecking away at the R311s for too long and have never seen these before...and yes, "premiums" on these two lists seem to be everywhere relative to others

Since the Salesman's Sample calls out their new photos every month, I think cataloging by year only roughly covers National Chicle's approach. They'd print what was popular in recent play and give themselves latitude to update.

Just in case, anyone know of a slip with different players? Maybe matching 1935 All-Star Game players/managers?
