Default Notice to eBay sellers

Technology is great and it really helps when trying to buy cards on eBay. High-res scans can really show all the details on the cards that we are wanting to buy and it helps identify fakes and flaws.

But with technology comes responsibility.

If I see a pube on your scans, I'm not buying the card. I'm just not going to.

If it's the darn ungraded Frank Smith, Boston and Chicago variation that I've been craving for but it has a curly, I'm not buying. Just not doing that.

Didn't this get Clarence Thomas in news for the wrong reason 20-plus years ago?

What if you could determine if it was a female pube vs a male pube, would you then buy it?

On a related note (to scanning, not to pubes ), has anyone else notice the increase in cell phone pictures for cards? I realize it's more convenient, but a good high-res scan is the way to go.

Agree Chuck. I hate the cell scan...ok if it's a quick one followed by some hi-res scans, but if it's the only picture I'll pass.

Yes, and agree. A good, cheap, usb flatbed scanner is all that is needed. I guess people don't want to spend the extra few minutes to use a scanner (or they don't have one)?

Part of it is because eBay is now pushing its mobil eBay site. Personally I despize it but that's me.

Maybe it belonged to the player. A game used pube would command quite a premium. If locks of Elvis's hair sell for big money, i bet someone would pay for a few verified Wagner curlies.

I have two cats that live in my office. I live in fear that I'm going to scan a card for the auction and miss a stray cat hair on the scanner bed that you guys are going to think isn't a cat hair.

During the auction, I am constantly replacing scans of cards with new ones, because I look at them over and over again, petrified of my damn cats.

I'd pay good money for a couple of Rachel McAdam's pubes (but only if they were graded NM or better)...

Genetic testing has to be a lot more expensive than TPGs.

I have used an iPhone5 to take detailed pics and they seem to be almost as good as a scanner. The key is to take a super close up pic of the front and reverse. That is taking a pic of a raw card or even a PSA card but when taking a pic of the SGC cards, there is a reflection of my phone , fingers and even sometimes the face.

A scanner alleviates all of these.

I think some eBay sellers try to take pics instead of a scan to mislead and not show all of the flaws that a card has. Their goal is to not show too much detail so that they can sell their card.

My scanner is pretty cheap, but I find that it shows flaws that I couldn't even see with the naked eye. Sometimes I go to sell a card on ebay and when I see the scan I have to downgrade it. Shows stuff I can't see with the naked eye. I'm not much on those angled phone pics. Shows that seller is not serious and maybe a crook.

Agree, eBay's mobile sight sucks! Granted, it's gotten a little better with zoom and an auction clock/countdown, but when that clock is 5-15 seconds behind the actual clock it doesn't help much. I've missed out on 3-4 items in the final seconds due to this. The other day (on a T205 Huggins I won), I decided to go home while on a run so I could bid late, rather than stay out and trust the mobile site. Once home, I watched side by side as my computer was 10 seconds ahead of eBay mobile, but was glad I decided to go home so I could bid/win.

It's a good thing this is pre-war or someone would probably bring up a scan of a Rusty Kuntz card.

Ken, I can't believe you would confess to scanning your cats. PETA might be very interested and they seem to lurk everywhere.

Then again maybe they'll just send some of these ladies over to your place to investigate.

Did anyone consider it might be this guys watermark?

Maybe Kreindler could use this method. Who's going to copy a pube?
