Default Grading question, all opinions welcome.

ok, it may be me, hell, it probably is just me. But I can't get a 1930 Sun photo card slabbed at all and these things cut out of a newspaper with the opposite page's print on back get slabbed? How are these any different than what our friend in Hawaii is slabbing, paper cut outs.

Dan:

Whenever I deal with SGC on an obscure issue, if they can research it in the Standard Catalogue, they will normally holder it unless it doesn't fit into their holder. Of course, random newspaper cut-outs would not be listed in the Standard Catalogue. I think maybe your question is really that the Standard Catalogue editor recognizes these pieces as a legitimate issue?

My 1930 Sun Photos are listed in the Standard Catalog and they won't holder them.

Dan I am sorry you were not happy with our decision to not holder your 1931 sun picture photos. It is company policy at this time that we do not holder any of the do-it-yourself photo prints, The photos are only a portion of the item which in its entirety includes the negative, the photo paper, the envelope, and the stand, too much for our holder to contain. Also there is the fact that most can be easily reproduced using vintage photo paper. Rinky Dink Stamps are a recognized issue unlike the magazine pages you are comparing them to and we have chosen to holder this issue but only give it an Authentic grade.

Thank You,

Glyn Parson
SGC

Glyn, I am not unhappy, I just do not understand it. I just completely disagree with slabbing something cut out of a newspaper. I can see the photo kit part and am assuming that I will never see a ray-o-print or the likes in an SGC holder. That does make good sense. Dan.

I also have a question about my recent invoice if someone could call me. I left Mike a voicemail but he may be out today. Thanks Glyn.

Hi Glyn, Mike got a hold of me today and answered all of my invoice issues. WOW! absolutely serious customer service. I like the SGC way.

I do have a question though, a friend of mine Chuck had an Orange Border Doyle that he tried to have you grade. It was refused and when I took it over to Dave Forman, he told me it wasn't an Orange Border. I naturally argued with him but to no avail, Dave always seems to win our arguments.

My question is: Now I see the same card in an SGC holder, another exact Doyle labelled as an Orange Border in the Goodwin auction.

I am starting to get a complex here guys. Dan

Dan -

That is probably becauce SGC doesn't know the difference between the Orange Border issue and the Baseball Bats issue. Just accept the fact that you know more than they do.
Have a good weekend!

- Dan
