Default Cleveland Plain Dealer Oct 9, 1920 Indians World Series Booster Ads

I am thrilled with an eBay pick up that is a copy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer from Oct 9, 1920 as the Indians headed into Game 4 of the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The paper is 18" x 22" and depicts 20 players from the Cleveland squad, with each panel having a unique advertisement from a local merchant booster. The ads from various businesses around town share the hopes of the whole city to bring home Cleveland's first title. Especially intriguing are all the offers to shower players with gifts if they are the winning pitcher, or hit a home run, or hit a triple, etc. Not entirely sure a merchant can get away with that today!

There is also an ad for a Babe Ruth Photo from Pathe Records. The Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards suggests this Babe Ruth Card is a 1921 issue, but this paper shows it may have been made available before the end of 1920.
