Default The Beggerstaff Brothers

http://www.sportsantiques.com/07natstory3.htm
Kevin...I'm not 100% sure but I think it's by William Nicholson...see the same one in the link above...scroll down to John Kanuit's booth...Nicholson and James Pryde were late 19th-early 20th century English artists who collaborated and called themselves the Beggerstaff Brothers....they did a series of 12 sports prints but this baseball wasn't in the lineup....golf, boxing, coaching, cricket, etc...

Also there's a football one like yours...Green and black in color as I recall...the art style is very much like Nicholson's 12 sports prints....hope this helps a little

Default Edward penfield

I believe it is by Edward Penfield. It is similar to the Colliers Baseball history cover a is almost an exact match in format and style for a football one entitled "backing up the line". I had one in the 80's and got it with a print of the Colliers cover. I believe the football one identifies the artist as Penfield while the pitcher does not. I am familiar with Nicolson,s work, but, while similar, this is not his in my opinion, and baseball would not be a subject for him. I suggest you explore Penfield's work to see if there is a match.

Talk to somebody in Pennsylvania who deals with nothing but Nicholson and he said it was not his. I think it's Penfield also
