I started another thread earlier on the Watercooler Talk board... I wasn't sure if it should go here. I guess nobody really looks over there (I know I don't).

http://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=178640

I was wondering if we had any veterans that posted here.

Machinist Mate 2nd Class (Submarines)
USS Wyoming (SSBN-742) 99-04
USS Philadelphia (SSN-690) 05-06
USS Emory S. Land (AS-39) 06-07

Here I am baby-faced and straight out of high school.

My grandfather was in the Army from 1948-52. SCARWAF 622nd Engineer Aviation Maintenance Company (Korea).

I too want to thank all those who are serving and have served our great country. Those of us, me included, that have not served will never understand your sacrifice. God bless and thank you.

Wow, you were in from 99 to 07 and all sea duty? Is it because Submariners are needed so badly in the fleet? I'm not familiar with the Sea/Shore Duty rotation anymore. Happy Vets day to you and all other active/former service members today. I was on the USS George Washington from 98 to 02.

My first sub was a missile boat and I wanted to see how life was on a fast attack so I went to sea again.

After the fast attack I wanted to be stationed overseas. The only billet for my rate was on the sub tender over in Italy. I told my detailer that I wanted to go to sea again and he told me that my rate was undermanned on shore duty so I couldn't do it.

I told him that I would extend indefinitely on the Philly until he was replaced. After I talked to my COB about it he went to the CO and between the 2 of them they went over the detailers head and got me the billet in Italy.

At the time the Navy was doing a lot of IA (individual augmentee) stuff. Basically taking guys off shore duty billets and sending them over to the sandbox to do crap jobs. Plus I was making too much money from my sea pay and sub pay to give that up.

Default Did my time!

I did 20 years as a pilot in the Air Force. I spent 4 of those years as an Exchange Officer with the Royal Air Force in England. This picture is after my last flight with them…fun blokes to be around!

Take Care,
Geno

Default Hey Geno....great to see you

That's me in 1960 attending a 10-month Air Force Radar Specialist School in Illinois. Then was stationed at a B-52 Bomber SAC base in Northern Maine.
Returned to the Tech School in Illinois to teach Radar Electronics. Returned to civilian life in August 1964. It was a great 4-year experience that I was
proud to be part of. Especially, during the Fall of 1962 when the Cuban Missile crises occured. The B-52 Bombers and the F-102 Fighter planes from our
SAC base were deployed to South Carolina and Florida bases in preparation for some serious action.
