Default Fake Ruth on the bay

Just in case anyone is thinking of it, as long as you know you are buying a fake card it's all good.

Ah yes, an oldie but a goodie. Advertising for a free drink at the bar while Prohibition was going strong. Genius!

How the heck can someone selling an obvious fake like that have a 100% feedback rating? Seems like somewhere along the way there should be a few negs.

He says someday this might be an expensive card. Unfortunately for the buyer, that day has already arrived.

I'm far from a vintage card expert like many of you on this forum. What are the obvious signs that gave this one away?

It's listings like this, top rated seller, 1000+ feedback, and still selling fake cards, that make it hard for me to buy any vintage card that hasn't been authenticated.

Those cards have been talked about many times on this board. So experience is number 1. Then it is just pitifully aged. All of the telltale signs of a faked old age appearance. Add to that the prohibition aspect of it and it doesn't make sense. And then lastly, I have handled many cards with this type of distressed look. They have all been fake. The paper stock is usually a dead giveaway when handling them too (it won't feel old)...

That makes sense, I hadn't considered the prohibition aspect. Looks like there's another of the same card for those who missed out on the last one. It appears to be in a PSA case or something similar without the PSA flip.

Might be nit-picky and I could be wrong but the font looks more modern and wrong for the period as well.

Fonts are one of the lesser things I personally look at but they can come into play. There were several show stoppers before I got to the writing on this one.
