Not really a "prewar issue" but while we're at it, When did PSA quit grading them? Here's another fake on ebay right now.

if u post it here, there's a good chance sgc has already read it and aware of the potential problem.

Apprently the first 300 numbered versions of this card were the ones that were signed. As far as I can tell it is just the base card from the set with some signed and some not. I assume that the posters feel that since both of these are not part of the first 300 that they autographs are fake. I have no clue about that but figured I would give some additional information about the issue.

They quit grading this issue, as well as several other modern autographed issues, while I still worked there. I assume they still have this policy in place. If you call Michael or Brian, though I believe they are currently in Chicago, they could shed light on the current practices at SGC regarding the issue.

Thanks,
Glyn

Thank you for bringing this auction to our attention. As Glyn mentioned, we have stopped grading the Fleer Legacy Pujols as well as other autographed cards which have been shown to be of questionable authenticity. This has been our policy for the past several months since we became aware of the issue. We were able to reject several of these at the 2008 National Convention to prevent more from getting into our holders. Luckily, there are only a few SGC graded examples out there, but we do know who submitted the cards and have provided their name to the authorities for investigation.

If you have any questions, please feel free to give me a call at the office.

Thanks,

Brian Dwyer

this autographed card is not the same as the base card....the auto versions have the word "authentic autograph" written in the background on the lower border...

before fleer went bankrupt, this auto version was considered one of the rarest Pujols auto rookies, with an estimated 60 copies....

after the bankruptcy, many of the "fake" auto versions started popping up to the point they were flooding the market.....(i think unsigned copies made it out the back door)

the fakes are not even good fakes, the auto looks terrible, and its on the wrong spot on the card...

PSA stopped grading these after i notified Joe Orlando of the problem....since the card is post 1999, they (the grading company) was taking the word of the card company that the auto was legit....until i notified them of the problem.....

about 6 versions got by PSA....

i have been tracking the fakes for about a year now....

ps...i know this is a vintage board, sorry for the modern post but i thought it was important...

Scott
