Default Color me stupid but...

Can someone please explain to me what VCP is when it comes to graded cards? I think it has something to do with the average price a card has sold at, but I am not sure.

How do you get what the VCP is?

Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Vintage Card Prices is a web site that lists auction price history. It has a paywall - CardTarget does not.

VCP offers and inventory service but to get past prices you must subscribe. In my opinion, very reasonable!
Along with prices you get to see images of past sales so you can compare the cards.

Where does it pull the auction history from? Is it just ebay or does it use auction house data too?

Many cards go un captured into the system. They are only as reliable as any other pricing mechanism out there.

If it is a high turnover card, such as Michael Jordan's Fleer rookie, it only keeps the last 50 transactions, which might be only for the last 6 months. If it is a low turnover card, one that hardly ever gets traded, I think it goes back to 2006.

You're not stupid. We've all had similar questions starting out. As a HS teacher once said, "The only stupid questions are the ones that weren't asked."
