Default T206 eBay Auction - Owen Wilson

All apologies in advance for outing this auction, but can someone please tell me what is going on with this card? What am I missing?

One of the bidders has a retraction for a $20,000 bid...

Now it's up to over $500...

I don't think you have to worry about outing this one, as any sane person is long out of it. Something fishy is going on. That's a $40 card, $50 on a good day.

Bidder 2 really wants this card. No doubt due in part to the recent discussion of T206 sunsets, Bidder 2 stays up late at night placing bids on the object of his obsession.

Looking to take advantage of the seller's offer to combine shipping, Bidder 2 has placed 43% of his bids with this seller (100% of his bids if you exclude items in other categories).

Bidder 2 is a new ebayer, as evidenced by his feedback score of zero, so he hasn't yet learned that these cards come around often or that this is a $42 card. Consequently, when another bidder placed a "top all" bid, it infuriated Bidder 2 who began attempting to outbid his opponent. His frantic state of mind is corroborated by an accidental bid of $20,000; one has to be overly excited to mistype not one, but two extra zeros. Despite seeing the other bidder's max prior to retracting the erroneous bid, Bidder 2 still had confidence he could win the card. Sadly, it appears that Bidder 2 does not have quite enough gusto and it appears the top all bid will carry the day at $510.

I hope this loss does not discourage Bidder 2 and that he continues to bid on his favorite seller's cards.

...mostly along those lines, but I always think that bids retracted, where the error requried more than one additional key stroke (as here two zeros) was intentionally done in order to "out" the highest bid. He did that here, to indentify the first "max bid," and now has been outbid again anyway.

But why someone would bid over $500 as a ceiling on this particular card is way beyond my compression (or checking account balance).

Bidder 2 thinks it's the rookie card of that actor with the crooked nose.

Maybe all the "Merkle Boner" talk on the board has something to with the interest as Wilson had the game winning hit in the Cub/Pirate game that brought about the original protest and ruling...

A shill?? With 0 feedback, 18 bids on the item, and 46% bid activity with the seller...Hmmm, why would you think that, LOL!!

Yes - I decided to run a legitimate business for 17 years -- build up 25000+ feedback on ebay, with one of the better reps out there, and then shill a common T206 tobacco card. Some of you guys should have a little more of a clue before you start making baseless insinuations.

I don't know what's going on -- and I can see information you can't and I am still puzzled -- and we can wait to see if it gets paid for, but I know that the underbidder - who is now the high bidder as I type - really seems to want the card.

Doesn't Owen Wilson hold the single-season triples record at 36? Maybe this guy REALLY likes triples. I know I do!

1st.....My guess is the $20,000 bid was inadvertently posted by buyer when he meant to type in $20.00. All
it takes is accidently typing a comma instead of a period. And, ebay responds with $20,000 rather than $20.

2nd.....Bidder 2 keeps incrementing his bids from $220 to $500.....this I find very strange. Once you are the
high bidder.....you can place higher bids on yourself, but doesn't your prior bid stay the same on ebay; and,
your new bids are "hidden" ?

3rd.....It's not only Bidder 2, who is strange ? What goes with Bidder 4, who is an ebay veteran and topped
the bidding at $500 ?

4th.....Finally, Seller has a tough T206 So. Lger. listed (Lentz, same grade as Wilson and ends at same time);
and, it is going for only $41.....you figure out this entire scenario....I can't ?

Maybe bidder #2 is the actor Owen Wilson and he doesn't care about the cost. He simply stumbled on the auction and wants it.

A card like this appears for sale on a fairly frequent basis. Why not exercise a little patience and buy one at the right price?

I'll lose my a$$ but I'll sell my SGC50 for $400. I'm just trying to be a nice guy.

In Rememberance of James W. Brennan Sr. 1924-1982. Dad, thanks for everything you did for me.
