Default New look for website

Surprised no one has commented yet that they changed the website (or at least the auction software) ie it has a new look; dont want to badmouth the new format but I'm a purist and like the old one better.

I am seeing some nice 14' CJ's for my collection. Random question for those of you who have experience with REA, once the online bidding ends is that the sold price or is there a live, in person, portion also? Just wondering, Thanks.

Online only. But the "overtime" period after the auction officially ends will be many hours...into the wee hours of the next morning. If your bid survives that, you win! Anyone who placed a bid on your particular lot in regular time can come back to it and bid again on that lot at any point in overtime.

Cheers,
Blair

First thing I noticed.
2nd thing was the inconsistency on the titles- some have the grade of slabbed cards, some don't. There are 6 (Six!) graded Aaron rookies almost in a row. 4 don't say the grade, 2 do. Someone rushed the auction a bit.

Seems the most logical approach to all of this is to place early, losing bids, put a marker down, and then come back on the last night and come up with a strategy for the wee hours, remembering the 20% add on at the end.

Is there any conceivable strategy that supports multiple bids over the next 4 weeks? Can't think of one.

Chest puffery and the illusion that you could frighten off prospective bidders. But, the truth is you'd do better with a low bid level heading into the wee hours and hope for whales to fall asleep.

As I told a member yesterday, great card but I am only half as interested, financially, than I would have been before selling. That being said that card will do fine and I am already at 140+ individual lot bids and going strong.

and yes, falling asleep the last night is an unfortunate consequence of this type of auction ending.....

Default Cleveland items

Wow, a much wider selection of Cleveland items this time. I am notorious for falling asleep. I see a 6-pack of Mt. Dew plus No-doz for me on April 30.

Well, there is a strategy I've set out on this Board before that I call "blocking", but some posters don't acknowledge the merit of it.

Here goes anyhow...

Given the low starting bids and the fact that almost nothing in an REA auction gets "stolen" all said, then there are a certain number of lower-than-market bid increments for each lot from the outset. Let's say that number is 10 increments. If you bid once, and everyone else does the same, you have to compete with 9 other bidders in OT.

Instead let's say that every time someone tops you, then you place the next bid on these preliminary increments. Now you have placed 5 of the 10 initial bids and cut the number of your OT competitors in half. If you and someone else both are employing this strategy, the lot could hit OT with only 2 bidders competing.

To me, this is an advantage at least on the odds and percentages. I think for the most part people who have disagreed this has any merit are basing that opinion on the fact that even if you cut it to 2-3, you don't know who those people are or how much they are willing to pay. It only takes one person with deep pockets to kick your butt and destroy any strategy you have.

All that is true, but in my view it is a percentages game and a "blocking" strategy can and should pay off if you are chasing a bunch of lots.

Cheers,
Blair

I am usually careful to word my public statements carefully . I make a lot of grammatical errors but the salient point usually remains.

And yes, I think I stopped counting at 140 individual lots I bid on. I think there might be another 20-30 I will bid on too which I haven't done yet. Where is batch bidding when you need it?

Batch bidding if I can recall is Heritage, Clean Sweep and I think Hunt... Well, maybe not Hunt as their website is different depending if live auction or enet auction.. Now that I'm thinking about Hunt's website I'm getting dizzy and need to go back to Ebay to relax my eyes.

Blair, here is a perfect example of the point you made. Lot starts out at 2500.00 and after 3 bids it's at 7500.00.
