Default 1919 W514 Joe Jackson question...

Posted By: Mike

I'm looking at this eBay auction for a Joe Jackson W514 card in SGC 88. Looks like a great card and I'm just wondering if you guys had more info on how the grading works for these. I mean, it looks like there was an auction for an uncut strip with a Jackson card (among others including Ruth) last year that ended around $6000 for 10 five card strips. Would somebody be able to cut these strips today and submit the individual cards for grading?

Uncut strip link:

Just trying to see if an SGC 88 is really as rare as the seller makes it out to be or if one could be "artificially" created if somebody wanted to cut a strip. Any help appreciated!

They can and do. Sadly, complete strips and sheets are going to be almost nonexistant because slabbers will give a number grade to strip cards that have been cut from strip. Personally, I think that they should not get anything more than an AUTH grade. Only complete strips should be getting number grades, but sadly, they don't them.

About strips,

The gradeing Co.s are listening now. The dozens of strips submitted in the past year to SGC, GAI (exclusively AUTH only) and PSA most have been given the Auth desig -which I'm content with...

FYI. Strips that recieved grades in the past year;

BVG; two fro-joys; BVG 1.5, 3.5 (Ironically, BVG refused to slab any other issue)

PSA; '43 MP&Co Joe D PSA2., R346 Joe D PSA3., R346 Lou PSA3

SGC; R346 Lou SGC88., W565 SGC50
