Default With all the negative stuff this week

I thought we would try a "good news" or "good person" thread on this board. Let's hear some positive stories about how we were helped by collectors or an amazing find we had.

Regards
Rich

Well I'll tell a "helping out" story. As most people know on this board, I enjoy collecting baseball related cigarette packs. For quite a few years, I had been looking for what I refer to as the "ornate" Creole cigarette pack which was used for the N321 distribution. A scan can be seen here:

http://www.baseballandtobacco.com/n321.htm

I had the less ornate version of the Creole but really wanted to get the ornate version. After probably 5-6 years of searching for an ornate Creole, a lot popped up on eBay with quite a few cigarette packs in it (I think 6); one being an ornate Creole. Unfortunately, the lot also contained a Gypsy Queen pack, which is one of the rarest of all cigarette packs. The lot was well described and wasn't going to be missed by anyone - and was going to sell for big bucks. Well, it ended up selling for big bucks (I recall $3k or $4k) and being in college at the time, I couldn't compete with the heavy hitters. As luck would have it, Leon ended up purchasing the lot. He knew I was looking for an ornate version of the Creole so soon after he one the lot, he contacted me and offered me the pack for a pittance of its value in order to fill the hole in my collection.

I've saved enough money to afford getting to the National. Won't be able to buy anything really, but what the hell...at least I'm getting there. And, the price is right for the Net54 dinner. Is that what you consider "good news" ?

Jeremy (Nashville collector) contacted me late last week about a T213-2 Omaha player card that I did not know existed and was available on ebay with a BIN. I often get emails from Net54 members about items that fit my collection and for that I am grateful.

Collecting is on temp hold. Mike is home on leave from W Africa and in reverse culture shock! I'm spending any extra pay on getting the family to Fenway a couple of times while he's home. Obstr views this past Tuesday, but atop the Monster tomorrow night. Life is very good in the Nation this month.

It looks like I will be able to go to the national as well and a very kind board member has granted me one of his passes for a few days at no charge. I am very greatful and will do what I can to thank him.

Default Jon your story made my day

Thanks Jon for sharing your Creole cigarette pack story. This is the best part of the forum when one collector helps out another. With all of the scams, fakes and forgery stories that we hear about it is nice to know that there are good guys in the hobby. Kudos to Leon!

Best wishes,

Joe
