Default N175 Gypsy Queen Pops?

I've done a little looking back over past threads...but what is the current thought on just how many N175's are out there? Small version and large version?

How long have the nine large version cards been known? Wondering if it's been forever since any new large version have been discovered?

Dave-The nine different large Gypsy Queens have been known for some time, and I doubt that there are any more to be discovered. My theory is that the nine were meant to be a complete team. If you look at the positions they are as follows:

Brown-C
Connor-1B
Richardson-2B
Ward-SS
Denny-3B
Tiernan-RF
Keefe-P

Ewing is listed as Captain NY
Kelly is listed as 10,000 Kelly

Both Kelly and Ewing played several positions, including OF, so the nine cards could cover all nine positions.

Ahh...very interesting thanks. And it does look like you're on to something with the positions being represented.....an All-Star team or something ?

I understand the large Gypsy Queens are as close to as rare to most any N-card...would you say 5 of each? 20?

And just how many more of the small GQ's are out there?

Thanks

Kelly is the most common and there are probably ten copies known. Of the HOF ers, Ewing in the scarcest HOFer with only 2-4 copies known. Most of the others are in the 2-7 range.

Two other questions I have are, 1) how many of the large Gypsy Queens are COMPLETE and 2) does a trimmed (rare) card get hurt as much in value as some other, more available card?

I have owned this large GQ of Keefe for about 15 years. The person I got it from had five other players (which he sold in a Lew Lipset auction in 2002 or 2003) and all of them were also trimmed.

Now, if the Kelly card has about 10 known and the rest have, at most, seven known then the total for all known cards would be about 66 (1 x 10 + 7 x 8) . Of that total, I know six are trimmed (9 percent).

So, does a trimmed card not get hammered as much on price because of its rarity or does it get hammered without any difference to rarity?

David

David-I would guess that 20% are damaged (trimmed, torn, etc) ,but that is just a guess. I terms of total large Gypsy Queens known, I would guess 40-50. As for value, I would think that a trimmed card is worth 10% or less of the value of a sound G-VG card. However, like everything else, it depends on the respective levels of motivation of the buyer and the seller.
