Default T3 team set finally complete! Let's see yours!

I started this team set several years back, but the last card I needed alluded me because of budget constraints and being outbid on some, and the past handful of years I've taken a hiatus from buying many cards to save up some money. I've started buying again over the past couple months and as a budget collector I'm thrilled to land this beauty, my 3rd Speaker (T206, E91C):

Gorgeous in person! It has a slight crease in the bottom right corner and a few pinholes but overall it's in nice shape.

Here they are all together:

(Top Left: Harry Lord, Top Center: Tris Speaker, Top Right: Bill Carrigan [Ad Back], Bottom Left: Harry Niles [Ad Back], Bottom Center: Amby McConnell, Bottom Right: Jake Stahl [thanks to Jason Carota for trading me this one way back])

Not many 26 year olds can say they have a complete T3 Turkey Red team set. One of the lone sets I've finished (unless you count E95; Carrigan/Cicotte/Lord), still working on my M116 [at 12 now] and 39' Play Ball [11/13] team sets.

Let's see your T3 Turkey Red team sets!!

Thanks for looking,
-Scott

You completed your goal and have a beautiful team set as the reward.

I really like T3s and if any set could cause me to fall off the T206 wagon, it would be T3s.

I've had a few in hand and was close to pulling the trigger, but always talked myself out of the purchase. What can I say, the Monster has me in it's clutches.

Well done Scott! Those are some nice cards.

A goal completed is always a great thing! Congrats on completing the Team set. Any plans to go further within the set? It makes me want to pick one up I have always liked the issue.

Great stuff. I've always wanted to do the Red Sox T3's. The red colors just seem to pop off the cards (same with the Cardinals players).

Well done, sir!!

When it comes to T3s pinholes are your best friend. Keeps the cost down in a big way. The Speaker is one of the more desirable Turkey Reds. Yours is right smart looking and the pukas don't do anything to take away from that. Good going on the BoSox subset.

Niles is always a tough T3 to find in really poor condition.

Yours isn't even close to mine.

Decades without UV protection keeps the red from popping too much.

I was under the impression that some speedster had stolen "home" on my card, but your card dashes that theory.

The hanger is in excellent condition though.

Whatever any serious buyer would pay for this is probably more than I did.

Default Cubs & White Sox Team Sets

It took a number of years to complete mostly due to $ constraints. The $ consideration also accounts for the large number of beaters. It does seem that pin/tack holes are common to the issue. My vote, if asked, for coolest back on a card would go to T3 Ad Back!

Thank you, Jason! I probably won't add more from the set at the moment, as I'm a strict Red Sox collector...but later on down the road I would definitely consider adding more as it's my favorite set. Maybe field a whole T3 team, just need a SS, corner OF's, and pitchers!

Thanks Conor. I wouldn't have them any other way! I do like a lot of my cards graded, but these are the exception. Much more affordable, and you can appreciate them more in their raw form. Not to mention I didn't want to have a mix of slabbed and raw T3's.

Wow, very impressive, Dennis! Beautiful examples you got there, thanks for sharing (Tinker and Brown 2 of my favorites from the set). I certainly can't argue with your vote! If I were a kid back in the day I'd tack these to my wall as well....how cool would that look?!

Jantz - Thanks for the kind words. Best of luck on the T206 set....that actually might be my next team set project, already have a few in my collection.

Zach Wheat - Thanks! I'll have to find my camera so I can take a better picture of my team set, that picture does not do them justice!

scottzoe - No Teddy Williams for pennies on the dollar? I'll contact you sometime in the future, to upgrade a couple of mine.

wolf441 - Do it! The red does pop, especially on the Speaker...that card almost looks 3D in person.

kawika - WOW! Incredibly impressive collection of T3's you got there!!! I'll visit your museum any day. I think the pinholes add some character to them as well, good to know they were displayed back in the day.

frankbmd - Ha, my Niles is gem mint compared to yours! I'll keep an eye out for your missing triangle. I thought it had been cut out because of the words on the back, but "one of ons take either Old or express" doesn't seem to make sense, unless it's some hidden directions to some buried treasure?!

Default Well done!

Hi Scott,

Well done. Enjoy them, they look grand.

Notice the Carrigan, it stands out as different from the others. If you look at the card of Graham, you'll see that the artists likely placed Carrigan with the Boston Rustlers (Doves?) at South End Grounds instead of dressing him in a Red Sox uniform at Huntington Avenue Grounds.

Great cards. Congratulations.

Happy Collecting,
Craig

Default Other recent pre-war pickup:

I guess I'll post this one here too, got it in a couple weeks ago:

E90-1 Charley Hall

If I had an unlimited budget that is hands down the first full set I would put together. Did one of the members here win the E90-1 Ed Karger that was recently on eBay last month?

I could never figure out what uniform Carrigan was in on his T3, but your observation seems to be correct! Either way I love the amount of detail the artist put into the painting, it's definitely the best looking one of the bunch in person. (Even if he is in the wrong uniform ) Thanks Craig!

Jason Carota - Couldn't have done it without your help, Jay! Which Red Sox team set do I go after next?

freakhappy - Thanks Mike....I only wish there were more Red Sox players in the set!

deltaarnet - Best of luck on your team set, Darrell!

jbbama - I agree Much appreciated!
