Default Wagner card - what year is it?

I have had this card in my collection for a number of years. It is cardboard with a blank back. Size of the card is 1.75x2.75. Appears handcut, possible originally part of an exhibit? can anyone help me identify it- especially the year? thanks

The other duplicate thread, which Brian had already commented in, was deleted as a duplicate. This looks like a 1948 Topps Magic photo thingy, maybe...

Thanks for the reply. The picture of the Wagner in that set is different plus my card is bigger and the back is blank. Any other ideas? or were there larger variations in that issue?

Cut down from a Jim Rowe 4-on-1 issued c. 1977 and reprinted c. 1980.

I think I have a Frank Frisch that looks similar to this. Have to see if I can dig it up.

That would certainly make it easy to determine the authenticity of the signature, since Honus died in 1955.

Default Wagner

Were all the Rowe 4 on 1 a yellow background as this one I have is a white background? Or is there a possibility there was an earlier version of the card that I have? I do not doubt it could be a forgery tho I do have a full letter PSA on it. Was purchased on an RR auction and I upgraded the cert. as someone else suggested the card may be after he died.

All the Rowe's I've seen are yellow, like this Pirates card for comparison

I don't know the answer, but if you feel like doing a bunch of image searches you could start with this checklist:

http://www.openchecklist.net/players/0BRV/cards

It might not take all that long as there are lots of cards this obviously is not.

Here's hoping that you find out it was produced in the 40s.

It looks like a real photo. The chemicals that make photopaper fluoresce very light blue under blacklight were introduced in 1955, conveniently the year Honus died. And very consistently (with the expected exceptions) photos from 1955 and after will fluoresce that way. The blacklight wouldn't be a definitive test, but if it is real photo and doesn't fluoresce brightly, that is consistent with it being from Wagner's lifetime.

Also a 1940s photo should be pretty toned/off-white on back. I've had later made Rowe photos that were on snow white photopaper.

Not much to determine. It's a 1977 Jim Rowe cut with a fake autograph.

I thought all the 1977 Rowe's were yellow, it seems like nobody has ever seen a white one. Plus the suggestion by drcy that it might be old and the authentication letter (grain of salt with those) made me think that the jury was still out.

I am with you on this. I read the thread twice and still have the same questions.

Somewhere I have a Frisch (signed) with this same issue. Not yellow...same "color" as the posted Wags. The signature seems authentic on mine.
