Default Kalamazoo Bats history?

I actually live in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and I've been curious about the history of the Kalamazoo Bats brand of smokes and the cards.

Does anyone know anything about the origins of the name, the brand etc?

Mark, there is a 6-page section on K-Bats cards in Lew Lipset's Encyclopedia of Baseball Cards - Volume 1 - 19th Century Cards. Also, Old Cardboard's web site lists these articles as having been published:
