Just got in some nice cabinet photos - Wahoo High School just after Sam Crawford would have been there, and two early Huskers....also picked up an elusive 1958 Lincoln Chiefs program.

Hi
I just picked up a nice George Kelly 40G.K bat. Always looking for vintage store model bats.

Hi
I got my new bat in the mail today. And i notice something funny about it. The seller never listed this in the listing. But on the bat there's side Written. I cant read all of it. But it say's (6-29-22 then Willers, then something then Store). And theres more writing below this. Also you can see where a label used to be. Now why would a store send a bat back.

Interesting...can you take a photo of the writing? It's possible that the bat was used by a minor leaguer who liked the size/weight/dimensions of the bat and sent it to H&B to order more.

Hi-
The label was probably the mailing label used by the player who sent the bat in to Louisville Slugger in 1922. I have one with the label still readable and postage stamps still on it.

Nice photo Paul. Do you have a Kentucky focus or did you just like the photo?

A bit of both Dan. I liked the photo and my "family" goes back to the 1700's in Kentucky. Just getting going on the whole genealogy thing.

Brock, that is probably a side written bat where a player sent it in as a model for bats to be made for them. Your bat has GREAT patina and is a fairly rare bat. Congrats on a great pick up.

Thanks Mike
When i bought it again the seller never listed anything about the writing. And it came from someone that collected store model bats. Also when i opened it up i could see it as clear as day.

Brock. Did you get it off ebay? Post the label and a clear pic of the knob. If it's a model 125 it could be a gamer.

Hi
I did get it off ebay. It's not a gamer because it has 40G.K also there's nothing on the knob. I believe it has the players name under the willers-store but cant read it. I can get pics later if you still want them.

Brock, it was probably a gamer, just not one used by a major leaguer. All the markings look consistent for a bat that was used and liked by someone enough to order more bats with the same dimensions. The guy probably used it and when it cracked he sent it off to H&B to order more. The local sporting goods store probably offered this service to the local ballplayers.
