Default September Pickups

I'll open up this month's festivities with the trio of top tier HOF'ers I picked up via ebay's recent 15% off coupon...

Default Clemente/ Ryan

Few more of my Clementes came for the basic set, and picked up a Ryan Rookie at a good price... perfect corners and registration... assume it would be an 8OC, but the guy getting it graded wanted no qualifiers and I prefer it that way too... the OC doesn't bother me too much on this one and it's one of those cards I just always wanted to get...

That 1957 Ted Williams is one of my all-time favorite cards...maybe #1 ever. There is a bit of an old and tired look to the Kid at age 38, but he still managed to bat .388 that season and have what some may consider the second best season of his career. Of all of Teddy Ballgame's cards, this one for whatever reasons feels the most majestic and regal--kind of like it's saying, "Yeah, yeah, I'm a cranky and achy curmudgeon but I'm still Ted Williams, the best f@%^ing hitter who ever lived."

Nice pickup, Dan! That really is a great set. If you watched the PBS special on Ted Williams that came out last month, you probably had a similar reaction to mine--"That's the picture they used on the card!"

Keeping up the Ted Williams theme, here are my latest two additions. These take me to 76/80.

Man some great looking cards here. I don't do graded at all, but those graded cards look really nice. This is my first pick up of the month. Got them from a great member here. Wanted to show them off. Thanks for the look.

Late deliveries, which usually means I will be paying duty, which I did.

Purchased these earlier in August but just received them last week.
Slowly but surely getting there with my 52 Topps set.

Very nice. Did not realize before I started collecting the '67 set how difficult it is to find that card centered. Mine is centered about like yours, but is probably only a 5 or 6 otherwise.

Picked up a couple of head shots...

I've always loved the '66 semi-high Aaron card for some reason. It looks like his entire face is made of muscle.

Just added this to the collection. A bit under graded in my opinion, but I like the look of it..,plus it’s Bob Feller, so can’t go wrong. Now I just need to find a ‘53 Paige and Spahn to keep him company.

Nearly my entire collection are cards outside the big four sports. I have only a handful of baseball cards, but I am excited to pick up this Old Gold Jackie. The Old Gold cards of Robinson seem really undervalued to me, given how much the Bond Bread portrait has climbed in value the last few years and the huge the population of his Topps, Bowman and Leaf cards.

Thanks, Irv. The card went cheaper than I thought it might, given how hot Jackie cards have been lately and being a PWCC auction. I know several of Robinson's color cards are iconic, but I love the more scarce in everything I collect.

Both Old Gold variations still seem really cheap to me for a debatable rookie card of Jackie Robinson

Default Flea market find

Decided to join a friend for a trip to the mansfield ct flea market today. Came across a dealer who had a 2x2’ space full of cards on his table..mostly 70’s and 80’s rookies, but he also had a pile which contained this pair. Been after a low grade example for awhile, but never expected to find it in this fashion, for this amount ($10)

4 more for my 52 Topps collection.

The PSA 5's are older flips but I am still glad to have grabbed them.

The Willie Jones is OC and not what I try to go after but the price was right and it's a black back.

Real happy with this Allie Reynolds. I have been trying for a while now but lucked into this black back version for what I think was a great price.

Decided the best place to put my 1978 Topps set in progress was the Topps "Super Sports Card Locker" some of you may remember from the sendaway offer on wax wrappers.

Surprised to find several on eBay, most equally beat up. The tie-breaker was that one came stuffed with 500+ cards from the 1980 set, all sorted into the team compartments.

The seller put some stars in one of the photos, which was an added bonus.

But the biggest surprise was when I flipped through the Oakland A's commons.
