Anyone notice that E90-1's have been receiving a little "hobby respect" lately

DON J.

This AM there are 29 cards listed on ebay. That's considerably up from recent
listings on these cards. If you recall, when we last had a very popular E90-1
Thread (over 100 posts), the E90-1 listing on ebay increased to over 60 lots.

Perhaps, your new Thread here can influence the market again.......as some
posters actually thought that the previous E90-1 Thread did.

I didn't mention it to drive any particular attention to the set but in bidding on some mid-low grade cards in the last week (3's-4's), I got blown out of the water! And prices on 5's and 6's are quickly becoming astronomical.

I've noticed this, too. I saw some on ebay a few weeks ago, and I don't have any, so I thought I'd pick up a HOFer or two. I got crushed on everything I bid on, but now it seems there are lots to be had.

I also noticed.
I bid on a few from that group of cards, of a couple of weeks ago.
Got crushed on every one of them.
Was amazed at some of the selling prices, but not at all surprised.

That batch on ebay a few weeks ago was a feeding frenzy. I couldn't believe where some ended up. A very few low low grades went for more reasonable prices, but ... sheesh. Seems like there have been a steadier stream of them on ebay since then too.

Anyone know who Thomascondo (ebay id) is?

Joann - That would be me. Back into E90-1 after sending in about 30 raw and PSA cards into SGC for grading and cross over. Cards looked great so I am working to put most of a set together. At one time I had 1 complete raw set without Jackson and about another 100 cards in a second set. Sold them about 6 years ago and am probably buying some of them back now. Did you see the price of the Walsh Aut. ?

Yeah - the Walsh was something. I was thinking that maybe someone wanted to gamble on a crack-out and resubmit because the seller had said the Aut was for min size, not evidence of trimming. It seems like evid/trim kills an Aut card more than min size.

I'm glad it's you Peter getting all those cards though. I was starting to get a bit frustrated, but did end up getting a few I wanted.

The spiralling prices for the E90-1s, IMHO, are just a natural reflection of what is going on with caramel cards in general. The other "E" cards are going crazy, why shouldn't this most neglected of all sets follow along? There is a lot of growth potential in the prices for the E90-1s in the guides (as there are with M116s), so I have thought all along it was better to try and finish up these two sets while the getting was good. For once I was right....

Like Peter Thomas....I sold my nice set of 120 cards several years ago.

So, now I have started a 2nd set (<Vg) and I am seeing prices that are mind-boggling
for these cards. Fortunately, I have some of the HOFers already......

But, what will kill your pocketbook more so than the Stars in this set are those
elusive 30 (or so) short-prints that we identified in the last E90-1 Thread........
like the Keeler (NY Giants)

Agreed, quite a notable jump. The raw cards are higher, but what blows me away are the lower graded cards: Common commons in 1-2 range pushing or exceding $100. Unreal, almost makes me want to garde my "caramels with character" near set .

Oh, and ..... What a GREAT set it is !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Upp's got a big butt, doesn't even fit within the border of the card.

I don't think there is any set that is not going to get hit hard, I am in hopes of getting more T330-2 Piedmont Art Stamps but that market has went sky high also.

Yep, my Upp has his butt tangent to the border, too. Upp is definitely a short-print.

And Duffy, who becme Manager of the White Sox in 1910, is in the last Series and is
a really tough to find card in the E90-1 set.

Look guys....despite what the "gloom & doom media" is telling us....the U.S. Economy
is doing really great. We have 95% full employment, the Stock Market at 11,500 is
just 200 pts. short of it's record high. Many are drawing lots of $$$$ from their home
equity loans, and Gas is down to $1.85 in in some areas today.

With all these good indicators....BB cards are going to continue increasing in value. And,
the E90-1 set is certainly one of the leading barometers to this trend.

For what it's worth, I saw a lot of E90-1s in dealer showcases at the National. I wasn't looking for them, or for any E-cards, but I kept running into them wherever I looked. Prices seemed pretty steep.

It seems like a lot of effort, but I agree with the kids who thought their cards looked better without borders.

I'm jealous, I want a big butt Upp to go with butt pats. Anyone have an extra Upp they are willing to unload? The lower the grade, the better.

Jay

Well I got into this set maybe 6-8 months ago and I figured there were enough around that I could pick up G-Vg commons in the $50-100 range with ease.

Damn was I wrong. I have picked up a small group of cards but recently I have been getting killed on the auctions. There were several PSA 1 and PSA 2 auctions last week and the cards went in the 150-250 range for base commons.

I don't think any of these cards were from the last 20 or were even considered tough commons so I don't know if I missed something or what.

At times I have considered selling my small number of cards and just refocusing but I am going to hold off and see if things calm down a bit.

I think another big problem with this set is that the "guides" are extremely off on prices and that makes it hard for a beginner to get a feel for what a given card should sell for instead of what two crazy people will pay for it at a given time.

James Gallo

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.
