Default T206 "A" PLANK in rea...printer's scrap?

Hello All

What do you think???? the Plank in REA printer's scrap??

I love the real print scrap Plank missing color(if someone has a scan)......but this one in rea, could also be hand cut from sheet???notice back print line across advertisement, it's nothing major....i love my scraps to have some major "defects".....i wish i could see this in person
it does look good with the wavy cut.....

pied 150 is where "all the magic" happens

Wonka, Jim, Ted, Tim, Johnny D, Leon....

PLEASE!! SHED SOME LIGHT

The card is legit, no missing color etc.

My guess is cut from a sheet, all known P150 Planks are handcut or scrapps in some shape or form.

The nicest of the bunch is the sheet mate to the famous T206 Wagner PSA 8 (also P150) and was sold by REA for 100k used belong to Charlie Conlon sold to him by none other than Bill Mastro, and is IMO the nicest Plank in the world.

The other is from the Halper collection pictured here (white, missing blue). Also handcut. The other Halper card missing color (with blue) handcut is a Sweet Cap back.

This makes number 3...

Easily the second nicest one after Conlon's card.

My thoughts were for some reason Plank P150's were not issued and the ones we have today are handcut ones that escaped the factory...but who knows perhaps a factory cut P150 Plank is waiting to be seen by us all someday...

Also 150 series Planks are always the best looking sharpest cards of Plank minus the Halper examples above. There are less 150's floating around and way more 350's. The 150's are much more desired by collectors for this reason and will sell for more when offered.

Cheers,

John

Default T206 Plank

Here is what I posted earlier in a different thread regarding an article about John D. Wagner, a baseball card collecting pioneer.

In that same article John D. Wagner mentions that he met Honus Wagner in 1942 or 1943, and in regards to the T206 of him Honus told John D. that he was very opposed to smoking and that he didn't want to influence kids in that direction, so he had them stop printing the card. Mr. J. Wagner also remembered that Eddie Plank was also against smoking, and thought that perhaps these two cards were never issued to the public, citing that the Plank card in particular was quite often found with uneven margins, as if cut from the sheet by hand.

Default t206 Plank

Thanks Guys

John, very informative, i haven't really studied Mr. Plank , but thats sounds correct!!

i'm in agreement, must have been a finished sheet, when something happened, and remaining cards were cut and divided up...

shoot me an email if you can John

Johnny

Default John D Wagner

Not only was he a card-collecting pioneer, but he was also an autographed card collecting pioneer. With this SASE, Wagner got Fred Snodgrass to send him back his T206 Snodgrass back to him, with autograph. I'd love to know more about this guy...
