Default Type 1 Baseball Photography Group on Facebook

Hey All,
I created the group on Facebook below for those of you interested in learning and collecting baseball photography. I just threw it up there today with a few thoughts, links and photos( some of my personal collection). I would love to see this evolve into a social group of Passionate members looking to both learn from and educate one another(like on here with a name and a face attached).
Thanks
Ben

Good idea, Ben! If nothing else, I think the more people who educate themselves, the better it will be for the hobby in the long run. Additionally, it's a good way for photo collecting to reach the echelon of importance in the hobby it so deserves.

Who said social media sites had to be dull?

Default What a Great Idea Ben!

24 Members in the first couple days! That RULES. I urge everyone that even has a casual interest in Baseball Photography to Join Ben's Facebook Group.

The time has come. David Cycleback is offering an online course in Photo Identification as well. The information is available. Take the time and learn some about Baseball Photography.

Not only is it a blast, before you know it, you'll be able to make good choices when you decide that you just gotta have that terrific TYPE I image of Babe, Lou, Joe D, or the Mick, and usually for pennies on the dollar for what a slabbed card will cost you. I'm telling you guys that this is the most rewarding sector in the hobby!

Here's Ben's link...

I disagree. If you want to have a great collection, choose cards. Photos are cumbersome, have writing, strange code numbers and stampings all over them, most are lame black and white and a bitch to store. Steve

I think it just matters on what you like as there are advantages and disadvantages to everything. The irony is, every disadvantage you listed I disagree with/think the opposite
I, like most, collected cards as a child that evolved into Cobbs/Ruths etc..
I can tell you, once I held the image below in my hand, I sold about every card I owned and have not looked back.
I found that my 3,000 dollars was much better spent on this original 190* image of cy young image(Paul Thompson) rather than 3200 for a Clemente 1962 card(ebay 130377816282/AND THAT IS ON EBAY).
Not to mention, this photo is the ONLY one known and the t205 card DERIVED FROM IT. You MIGHT be able to get a psa 6 cy young t205(how many of those exist?) for that price.

But then again, maybe not...http://legendaryauctions.com/LotDetail.aspx?lotid=69208

This thread(facebook group)was suppose to be a positive thing for us photo collectors not a place to battle against other parts of the hobby.
Steve, I respect your passion. I hope you are able to positively channel it and grow the card sector as it is historically and still the backbone of the hobby.

For those of you interested photos, please feel free to join the group Jimmy listed below.

Thanks
Ben

PS: It is ok to like cards AND photos

I think Steve was being tongue in cheek. As in, the photo guys don't need any extra competition or a reason to drive prices up beyond what they're already at.
