Default Boston Garter Johnson

Posted By: Corey R. Shanus

Lot 1 of the current Goodwin auction is of the 1913 or 1914 (the SGC label says 1914, the catalogue heading says 1913) Boston Garter Johnson. Goodwin describes the card as "To our knowledge, this may be the only existing Boston Garter, Color, Walter Johnson in existence".

Is that true? I remember some time ago someone posting that he knows of a 1912 Garter Johnson (which as I recall is checklisted on the verso of the 1912 Garters). Is it possible that person was confusing the 1912 with the 1913/1914 (BTW, is Goodwin's Johnson 1913 or 1914?)? Can anybody post an image of a 1912 Garter Johnson?

The Walter Johnson H813-2 card currently at auction is in fact a 1914, not 1913 like many of the catalogs say.

I know the owner of the 1912 H813-1 Johnson and can confirm its existence as I have seen it. It is a very attractive card and features Johnson wearing a blue Washington sweater.
