Default Are you Male or Female Forum Member

I have noticed a few new members that are female. I have yet to meet a female collector.

I was just curious so I started this poll. A very simple question.

Are you Male or Female?

Wow ... perfect timing. I was just mulling this over the other day. I have never met a female collector either.

I know some die-hard female baseball fans, but no card collector's. I wonder why that is????

Let me grab a glass of courvoisier and ask ....... why is that??

I guess this explains why our wives let us go to the National. It's not that they trust us, it's because they know that there are no woman in this hobby.

You can think of it being like riding a Harley... It's a way for men to interconnect and express themselves with one another. The only time you'll see a woman there is if it's another's wife.

While at the 2010 National in Baltimore, I was taking a break behind my friend's table when a female porn star walked up and took a look around.

Her and her friend were carry bags of items they had purchased.

So I know of at least one female that collects.

Well, my 8 year old daughter collects. We just traded a few Indians cards and 60s cards this morning thanks to a "snow day". She's been begging me the last couple days to trade.

Also, when I was in college in the '90s, the local card shop in Tiffin, OH was run by a middle aged woman whom I visited a lot. She had a nice shop. I remember buying a nice '57T Williams and '59T Clemente from her.

at the last wssca show in seattle there was a young, extremely attractive woman walking around buying up all the yankee cards she could get her hands on. while i assume they were a gift for someone, man did she brighten up that room.

they have showgirls at car shows and fishing expos....why not card conventions???

I don't remember comic books. It was back inside a hallway of a building on N. Washington, I believe. It was about the size of a bathroom.

I only remember Joan for a few months and think she has posted several times last yr, a female dealer that is at the nationals has an impressive personal collection as well as 50-70 cards, Kristen is a collector as well as dealer with her husband Chris, and my 7 yr old daughter has an impressive start to the Monster.

After seeing these results, I decided to close up shop and start selling tupperware. More woman in that business.

Buythatcard will be renamed to Buythattupper.

BTW, finally made it my 300th post

I think I am a male. Lately my only sex life has been my annual colonoscopy. My doctor will only allow me one per year.

Well, as of 7:58 p.m. EST, the voting is 182 male to 2 female. In Florida Presidential terms, too close to call.

Rather lopsided results on the poll so far.

This probably explains why back when I was single the pick-up line, "I collect baseball cards!" never seemed yield effective results.

Yes - my husband holds this account, but there are females out there that collect and follow your posts. A short introduction: My name is Kristin Buckler, I am a female and I collect! (I have met some of you at the Net54 dinners held at the Nationals)

My husband Chris and I collect together and are dealers. He does handle the buying, but we both share a love for 1907 Tigers, 19th century to 1900's Louisville players, as well as, tobacco packs and tobacco advertising pieces. Of course our collection expands to include many other players and teams but our primary love is Cobb and t206's. We battle at times over our favorite players and their stories, but we enjoy the ultimate hunt for the obscure.

I have personally had the opportunity to meet female collectors that range from newbies to knowledgeable hobbyist. In fact we recently sold a Novelty Cutlery Lajoie SGC 4 to a female this past year whom is a Cleveland collector. We also work closely with another female that is working to compile an E & T set collection for her 2 boys. She attempts to complete 1 set per year of their birth....I wish my Mom would have done this for me.

Yes, this is primarily a boys club, but don't discount the women that are in the hobby who enjoy the chase. They may not be on the boards or they may not feel comfortable enough to post, but we are here and we are buying just like you!

p.s. - Thanks Andrew for the love! See you in Chicago

Surely you jest. Don't call me Shirley.

Perhaps some of the men should consider collecting Olympic memorabilia. Our group has a lot of men with the dutiful accompanying wives, but there are also some women members. It must have something to do with collecting shiny things - the pins. There are even a couple of them who collect and their husbands are not interested in the stuff. Be sure to drop by our Olympic area at the National this year. I collect original photographs of American Olympians and buy and sell Olympic autographs. I don't get the pin thing. A friend and I call them skeet, as in shooting.

I'd wager to say there are more than two "females" here... Probable dozens. Maybe we aren't as active posting, but we are here.

With >25,000 modern day cards and a room full of other baseball stuff, I am an avid collector of (albeit worthless) baseball ephemera.

They were put in by women and Paula is correct. We have a little over 3650 members now and I would guess around 3/4 percent to 1 percent are women. Probably on the lower side of that equation....Just a guess from someone who approves all of the registrations...and welcome Paula.

With the amount of dudes in here, I can imagine there being a bit of hesitation from the women in announcing their presence.

I just keep having visions of the outcome being similar to the nude beach scene from "Eurotrip".

just a warning. There are some "ADULT" ads on the page..
