Default Does anyone have M116 envelopes?

Wondering which, if any have survived out there in board member collections and trying to determine if more exist from the easier to find series numbers.

For those that may not know, these are the actual envelopes that the groups of cards shipped in.

Don't worry, not trying to buy them from you...unless...

Thanks for any information.

Rob

Here is one, Series 14, and I might be able to come up with another later. This scan included another Sporting Life item.....

Thanks Leon. Is the larger envelope for W600?

Series 14 has some tougher cards in it compared to earlier series. I would imagine it's tougher to find then say this series 2. These are very hard to find in good condition or better.

I have many but not all. There are also many different team sets that were sold later as well with an entirely different numbering system.

I think it was a "box" a W600 would have shipped in but not positive.

I am pretty sure that W600s were shipped in a glassine envelope inside of a bigger Sporting Life envelope. Will see if i can find my reference for this.

I would have thought maybe the glassine envelope was inside the larger cardboard envelope type box in my scan.....otherwise not sure what would have shipped in it. Hopefully you can find the definitive answer or Scott knows....or Jerry or someone who has studied and collected them. I only know a little about a lot but not a lot about anything .

and I knew these larger packages had been discussed before...along with some envelopes...

I have a couple. A series 4 envelope in really bad shape and a Cubs team envelope for my team set I am surprised these are not worth more as they are nearly impossible to find. I lucked into my Cubs one and it took me 5 years to get my second one.

Leon, you could very well be right. I just always figured that they were shipped the same way that other oversized cards, such as T3's, were shipped. It just seems like the extra expense of a box along with the additional postage would not have made sense for a premium that they were charging very little for.

In the later years, the Sporting Life sold the cabinets directly for six cents each or a dozen for 50 cents. No coupon was required. Maybe the box was for the dozen card orders.

Thanks Pawpaw for posting that link. That's pretty amazing and I'm sorry I missed the chance to bid on that lot. Wow.

Scott has everything. No fair.

The box was probably used for the bulk(dozen) shipping, I can't tell if there is a postmark or even a postage stamp(s) on it,, that would help date it to Sporting Life's offer.

Unfortunately I did not buy the complete set from Lew's auction but I did pick up the entire contents of a SL 1913 mailer/offer posted below. This was the tail end of the W600's only offering what they had leftover, the list is MUCH shorter than most years.

I wonder how much the set of Sporting Life envelopes sold for in Lew's auction? I couldn't pull up the final price. I have one envelope in NM condition, it is beautiful. I bought it as a "type"to go with my M116 complete set about 6-7 years ago. I can't remember which Series it is but I believe it is #22 or #23.

Bob,

I think it said 1500 which was ridiculously low.

Pretty cool that you have a later series envelope. Especially in nice shape.

Scott,

Thanks for posting those pics. It's amazing how preserved those items are. They look like you received them from SL yesterday.
