Although I wound up with two commons, this was really fun. Thanks to Nick (and, of course, Leon) for making this happen.

Best regards,

Eric

Lots of anticipation followed by disappointment...

$25 for $5 in cards - yup sounds about like my normal ratio

Thanks Nick for doing this! Good Fun

Kevin,

Don't think of it as overpaying for commons. Instead, use this as an opportunity to experience what it would have been like to open two Topps "one cent" packs back in '54...and build your set from there.

That's what I plan to do.

Best regards,

Eric

To quote the famous autumnal philosopher: "I got a rock!"

But it was fun -- and thanks Leon and Nick!

I hope next time you do this, the winning cards are displayed on the Forum after the live telecast instead of before. Took the fun out of watching.

I can't wait till I can rewind and watch the video again. Looked like my new #17 Phil Rizzuto was way off center top to bottom. I am weird and collect oddball stuff like that so I am super happy. Also got the #22 Greengrass.
Thanks Nick and Leon!!!

I am happy with my pick up of #237 Mike Ryba, a Cardinals card I did not yet have in my collection.

My other pick up was card #195 Billy Consolo RC of the Red Sox (boo hiss boo!!) whom I would be happy to trade for a Cardinal card from the set break!

I look forward to the next break!

Good times & thanks for putting this together!!

I'd imagine that in 1954, when a kid popped a "one cent" pack, there was no Pop Tarts ad in Spanish.

Thank you for doing this, Nick. It was just fun being able to do something with everybody else for a change. I look forward to doing this again.

Agreed. The break was great but I knew immediately I hadn't landed anything good once the list was posted because no one was PM'ing me to say congrats!

I totally agree with whoever said that it's like opening a pack of cards... The adrenaline rush was awesome...

I was talking to my friend during the break... and I said to him (and I quote):
"I only hope I don't get a couple of old guys yelling."...

sure enough:

#65 Bob Swift - Coach
#176 Robert Keely - Coach

LOLOLOLOL!!!

If I didn't laugh, I'd cry.

Having said that... THANK YOU to NICK AND LEON!!!!
This was awesome and I'd LOVE to do it again!

Cheers!
-John

I saw some members wanted me to post the list right away so I did that just to please those that wanted to save some time. Next time I will wait to post the list until after all the cards are revealed, just so everyone has to stay tuned to see what they got. I also know Ustream ads aren't great but Ustream has the only feature that lets you broadcast live and record at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestions. We are really taking them into account for next time.

We are certainly fine tuning the way we do it and I think, without giving it more thought, that you are correct. I looked down the list for 128 and knew the big winner ahead of time. We will regroup for the next one and hopefully take the few kinks out of it..... Congrats Jburl .... and thanks a Million to Nick for doing it....LL

I ended up with Fred Haney (MGR) and Gil Hodges, probably close to even Steven.

Default Pretty cool, money well spent.

Thanks for fitting me in at the last moment. BTW, this is my first 1954, Geno Bertoia (who? Guess I get to find out...)

Never done this before, so I'll ask the dumb question:

How do you go about trading for this? Do you post in this thread or do you actually post in the Buy/Sell/Trade section? I ask since I'd gather that you need to trade w/ others in this break...

Any Tigers or Braves fans needing a coaching card with the subject in the crouch holding a catchers' mitt?

What are the odds? Two Bobs. Both coaches. Both catching. LOL

I'm a Giants' fan, but am not particular on this set... Cheers!

You can post on the thread.

For example:
Selling/Trading Card #65 Bob Swift

Or

Buying all braves.

Thanks, Nick!

I'll trade either of my two cards for anyone not a coach or not named Bob... (kidding about the second part)...

I prefer Giants, but won't be too picky... Thanks!

I'm looking to trade card #75 Fred Haney, Pittsburgh Pirates manager for any Cleveland Indians card. LMK if you are interested.

Thanks for putting this together!

And a 250 card lot sold out with relative ease, so I would think the next group should be the same, if not more cards?

We sold up to 2 slots each (mistake) and I think we had about 128 players. We probably could have gotten 50ish more individual players and maybe up to a total of 200. I would think we would want close to 200 cards or more, in the next break.

Default Thank you!

Nick and Leon, even though I ended up with 2 commons, this was a lot of fun and I would like to thank you both for your hard work. I know it wasn't easy and it consumed a lot of your time, but your efforts are appreciated.

Thank you,

Rick

I am a little ashamed to admit that I got two Dicks - Kokos (Balt) and Brodowski (RedSox). So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Thanks to Leon and Nick for running the break. Even though I completed a 1954 Topps set last spring, I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Beats the hell out of a case break of Topps Heritage!
