So, I can't sit back and complain at the volume of Coach's Corner/Chris Morales/fake eBay Ruth/Gehrig auto threads and not contribute something meaningful to rebut them.

I love cardboard et. al., but this has been my collecting passion over the last 3-years.

Not many toughies (if any)...but I love 'em nonetheless

Finished up shadowbox #2/6 this weekend -- can't wait to start #3.

I have always loved collecting pinbacks. Here is a small sample of some from my favorite team.

Great pinbacks everyone. Love seeing pinback collections as much as I like seeing cards.

Rob, you're not doing the Young and Feller any justice...you can hardly see 'em. Have tried on a couple of occasions to pick up the Young pin but with no success.

My favorite pinbacks are of Pittsburgh Pirates greats (pre-war and post-war).

I was fortunate to pick up the PM1 earlier this year and the Diamond Gum followed about 2 mos later...



The next 2 pins are of my favorite player of all-time. Would rival some of the toughest pre-war pins in terms of scarcity. Was lucky to add a second one about 3-4 years after purchasing the first one...

Lately I've been thinking about collecting baseball pinbacks, as a diversion from cards. But what is holding me back is not knowing anything about them, expecially about reproductions. Can anyone recommend a good book about baseball pin collecting. Thanks.

A good reference book is Paul Muchinsky's guide. It's a nice, hard-bound book with tons of color photos. Has a small section in there about detecting reprints. Paul does infrequently post here, you may want to try to contact him as I think the books are ordered directly through him.

I think Hake also had a pinback book, but it was printed years ago, but might be good to get familiar with what's out there.

One last thing, check some of the old auction catalogs (i.e. REA, Mastro,etc.) as they usually have pinbacks in each auction.

Very nice read on the color Kiner pin. I own that pin and one thing I always wondered why it was made in color like that. Thanks for the read and as we talked about one day I will have to re-do the PM10 section of the catalog.

Just picked this one up last week. Was surprised to find this gem in a Chicagoland antique mall display cabinet among other antique non-sports items for a steal of a price. First time I have ever seen this pin with ribbons and attachments.

Please send a picture of both the front and back. I know nothing about cards, signatures, or pennants, but am most willing to share my opinion about the authenticity of pinbacks.

Scott, the pin was at a dealer's table at the Strongsville show. I saw it as I was getting ready to leave. The show's not that big, so it's pretty easy to cover the floor, and I had looked at pretty much every table at least once or twice. The pin was at a table I hadn't really looked at because most of the stuff was newer, and there were a lot of non-baseball items.

I luckily happened to notice it among a couple boxing pinbacks, and needless to say my exit was delayed.
