Okay, bear with me on this. I've created a "non-baseball" vintage forum for discussion of hockey, football, boxing, running, etc. It is extremely plain - no nice backgrounds, etc. - primary concern was functionality and control.

This is sort of a test of some control features that we can test and propose to Elliot if they seem to work well. To join, you have to actually apply, which means you have to be a Net54 member (free), have a validated email adress (you will be sent a "key" after applying), and you must send an application, which is simply to make sure your interests really have anything whatsoever to do with vintage sports (very simple). I did not add a chat feature, because we have a perfectly good chat feature on this forum, but I did create a "members only chat forum" that I will add if others think it's worthwhile.

Please - if a few of you could join and play around a little to help test, it would be greatly appreciated. If this thing dies quickly, sobeit.

Here's the application link: http://www.network54.com/Hide/Group/27528

Just curious if anyone knows if there are any vintage baseball memorabilia forums?

Thanks,

Rob

We've had great discussions about equipment, photographs, etc., and no one's ever complained.

BTW, there are at lest 10 people signed up for the "non-baseball" forum so far. Unfortunately, I personally don't have much to add to it since I'm pretty dumb except for baseball, but I'm having fun playing around with the Net 54 features.

Because knowledgeable cards and memorabilia community forum sites are so hard to come by (I tried Beckett's sites--their "vintage" forum thinks 1979 Topps is ancient), I've observed others post, and have certainly done so myself, as though this site were a catch-all for vintage baseball whether it be cards or memorabilia. (With an emphasis on pre-war issues.)

Is this generally the attitude of the contributors to this site?

I really enjoy reading this forum and actually check it several times a day. I collect mostly vintage memorabilia ie. autographs, photos, etc. (although I am a little over halfway through collecting a T201 set), so I wasn't sure if it's a problem posting non-card messages. So far, everyone has been seems to be cool with it, but I don't want to overstep my bounds on this board.

Thanks - Rob L

I think the key word is "primarily". I don't believe anybody has a problem with discussing memorabilia, photos, etc. from the pre WWII era, in fact, the change of pace in some of those posts is quite interesting. I just don't want to see the board "overrun" with non-baseball card, non pre WWII, related posts.

Vintage baseball non-card posts (photos, pennants, pins, etc) have been acceptable topics on the board and, assuming it's within the general genre of the board, I don't anyone would object.
