Default grover gibson???

my family always told me that my great,great,great uncle by the name of grover gibson played for the redlegs in the early 1900's. Has anybody heard of this player, or should I start a big brew- ha- ha within the family ranks. HELP ME PLEASE!!! THANKS

If Grover is his given first name, there was no Grover Gibson in the Majors. If Grover was his nickname, I would check a second time.

what about Pittsburg?? Reason I bring that team up is because a few in my family say it was the pittsburg franchise he played for. (should of mentioned that in my previous post.Sry

Wayne, most early baseball players had nicknames (Babe Ruth, Lefty Grove, Cap Anson). Some had 2-3 nicknames. This can make identification tricky for obscure players, especially when they have a common last name. This is why I initially asked if Grover was his real name or a nickname.

George Gibson for the Pittsburg team had the nickname "Moon" in Basball Encyclopedia. If this is the player he has over 30 baseball cards.

Hi Wayne:

Was your ancestor from Canada...London, Ontario? That's where George "Moon" Gibson was born. He came up through Montreal in the minors, and played most of his career with Pittsburg. I happen to collect his cards. Here are a few:
