Since it's getting close to the end of the year I was wondering...Over the past year what was your favorite purchase that you made regarding card(s) this year? Weither you got a card real cheap or found one that you have been looking for what seems like forever what is it.

Mine is...

Gosh, there have been so many crucial acquisitions this year! I haven't recovered from my most recent tho. I look at it daily. It completed my set.

Well, it completed a subset of my set.

The set is: the highlights of baseball in 1936. And in that year, one of the things which occured was that (ho-hum) more players hit 50 or more doubles than any other year. ie. 1936 is "the year of doubles" in the 20th century.

I chose to portray this with Batter Up cards. Although several are difficult in nice condition, Medwick is particularly troublesome. This set also lets you include cards with different colors. Of course, I am still in the process of adequately portraying the diversity of the batter up colors in conjunction with the main focus of this 1936 subset.

In any case, the Medwick card took me over two years to acquire. And if it wasn't for a conversation with Brad Green of this board (about a different subject), I wouldn't have it yet.

If anyone is still reading and understands any of this, please e-mail me at identify7@aol.com

My favorites (other than your Gehrig) include the Dimaggio, Vaughn, Hubbell and all Series 15.

And FAIR WARNING for the sake of the board and load time I am again invoking the "scans at 1x" rule...unless the item is tiny like a Baguer (sp?) Chocolate or T332 Piedmont Stamp please make your scans 1x size...thaks again

Hoy (lower left), Selee (seated, center)--these two before their major league careers--and McCarthy (seated to Selee's left). An actual card, the back says "Pennant winners of 1887" and lists the players, and Selee as Manager, printed in red ink. Won it on eBay, after keeping mousy quiet about it for a week. (scan is about half the size of the card)

These would be the key acquisitions of the year for me. The Wagner was a seperate purchase from the e104-3s:

I'd like to add to Leon's comment about scans and please ask that you not put each scan on a new line. Start a new line when the scans would cause you to scroll left to right. This will minimize the amount of scrolling up and down.

It may not be "the" card of the set, but it is one of the "the" cards of the set (and a beautiful one at that) ---

I have a tough time choosing. When speaking about individual cards I got the most kick out of getting these five. However, my favorite purchase of 2005 was the 61 card lot of T206's and E102's.
Thanks Wes!
Thanks Mastro!
Thanks Greg!Thanks BCD!

Thank you Dan K.!

George C. Miller - Foxx, Grade 5, and US Caramel - Foxx, Grade 5. I love the early 30's cards. May every one have a fantastic 2006.

I have not yet received my Mastro 1886 Game in Progress Cabinet (Detroit vs Chicago), so I'll go with this Charlie Bennett Tomlinson cabinet. Certainly one of my favorite Detroit items.

Probably will be my favorite of every year. Don't think I'm going to the next level of collecting. Can't afford the extra zeroes.

It had to be a great year for this to be my second favorite card!

Ya gotta love it. (Is there a Tim Hortons in Dog River?)

Hey Zach- love your Jose Capablanca card. Best chess player ever to come from Cuba, world champ in the 1920's, and one of the game's immortal geniuses. Really cool card.
