Default Some interesting lots in the Mastro Auction

Posted By: Bob

Although I had trouble navigating the auction going in the backdoor, I was able to find some really nice lots. I saw one card I have been waiting a couple of years for (can't tell you which one but anyone who knows what I collect will instantly recognize it). This is a sample of the nice stuff you rarely see:

Thanks for sharing Bob,

I don't remember seeing a single Big Eater available in the last couple of years let alone a group like that. And in such good condition as well!

Mark - it was posted in the REA thread - just go to the next item number by manually incrementing the URL. You can start with the last item in their last auction.

quan - go earlier in the numbering sequence (before the tin tops and T205s) and you'll find many goodies including an SGC 50 Tip Top Wagner, a Fatima Premium Cleveland team and complete set of GCMs including the Andrews.
or
you could just wait until they are ready

There is a very nice 1909 Obak set which is complete minus the Gandil. The Gandil was taken out and is available separately
There are also complete 1911 sets and a 2/3 near set of 1910 150 backs, an incredibly tough set to complete (mine is the only one on the registry and it took me 10 years to complete it card by card).
There are some stunning T205s in high grade and lots of very nice E103s. I also spotted a large group of E98s mostly in lower grade although Matty and Young were included.
Because it was tough to navigate, I didn't get a chance to look at that much but what I saw was nice.

Well if we are all going to sit here and discuss an ongoing auction of crappy PCL cards we might as well get a coalition together. email me if you are interested in one of the Big Eaters, and I will try to get the group together.

I think its great that one thread on the main page is filled with amazement at the early high bids and interest of one auction (REA), even though the tangible catalogue has not been issued. Yet, this thread is filled with the excitement of "back door" looks and speculation into another auction (Mastro) that hasn't even been launched yet. I'm guilty with excitement too, I just think its funny.

The backdoor is still open, so I guess Mastro isn't irritated that these links are being circulated on the internet. Here is a link to Lot #1, if you want to work up through the whole list:

http://www.mastroauctions.com/index.cfm?action=DisplayContent&ContentName=Lot%20Information&LotIndex=79836

To browse more lots, replace the last digit '6' with '7' to get to Lot #2, or replace the last two digits '36' with '86' to skip ahead 50 lots to Lot #51, and so on. Pretty clunky way to navigate, but it works.

I did do the "backdoor" preview last night. Not sure why they wouldn't just open it to viewing? Some really great things in there.....It always makes me feel like I don't have enough money though....
