Hi Ted,
When you say "master", are you including factory # breakdowns as well as brands and series? If so, I would guess 6752.

Yes, all 35 backs with their respective Factory #'s.....everything.

But, we are looking for the actual number of cards.....not the possible #.

I'll guess 6,960....just a wild shot in the dark guess.....unless this is like "the price is right", in which case, I'll guess 1.

Default Tuesday nite Trivia....How many T206's comprise a master set ?

Bill Heitman's book titled "The Monster" was published in 1980. The "T206 maniacs" (as he referred to them back then)
that considered completing a "master set" of T206's, speculated that it would consist of at least 7000 cards.

That was the 1980's....now in the 21st Century, and thanks to the internet, we are realizing that "The Monster" is not
as bad as a T-Rex....but, perhaps just a small "Brontosaurus", due to the many NO PRINTS within the various 35 backs
in this set.

Therefore, most of the numbers posted here so far are considerably higher than the actual current number. Continue on ?

Default Hey guys,

There is one post here that approaches the actual number.

Shall we call it quits, and reveal this close answer, or do you want to continue this game a little longer ?

Default my guess

The SuperSet checklist that I have shows 4485 combos kconfirmed with a theoretical 6693 possible. I will assume the actual number is larger than the confirmed combos slightly... so maybe...

Default The prize for the correct answer here is........

Any T206 (your choice) in Vg-Ex condition other than the "Big Six", HOFer's, Southern Leaguers, Dahlen (Brooklyn),
Elberfeld (Washington portrait) and Lundgren (Cubs). And, if I don't have your 1st choice, then we try plan "B".

Default 22 hours of this Trivia torture is enough....the winner is......

"insidethewrapper" guessed (or did his homework) with the closest # of 5100.

The currently confirmed # of cards needed to complete a master set is 5136.

The source of this actual number is Scot Reader's recent edition of "Inside T206",
that contains checklists that map out the 524 cards with respect to their all their
T-brand backs. Obviously, this is not a final #, as several more front/back combos
will surface in the future. But, at this point in time it is accurate.

Email me at........tedzan11@comcast.net

And, we'll discuss your T206 reward.

Default Congrats insidethewrapper!!!!

And thanks Ted for a great trivia contest on T206!!I,of course, was way off-but to me,a master T206 set is 518-one of every card issued(minus the "big 6")with any back.I know-thats not a true master set,but let me think that-it's a much more realistic goal for me to reach. Thanks again for the contest, and congrats to the winner!!!!

he is not correct-there is no account for the no prints-nobody will get this one-there are too many no prints and plenty new discoveries ahead.

the St Louis Drum find alone added 10% to the total list of known Drums. In 98 there were 29 known Drums-today the total is around 130.

Default Actual Master Set of T206's

OK guys....I thought we had already discussed this....however, let's try again.

The gist of this quiz was to set a number on the actual (confirmed) front/back combos known to date.
Not the theoretical number which approaches 7000 cards. There are many T206 NO-PRINTS that must
be considered.

For starters......your......
"American Beauty - Series 460 - Factory 42 - District 4 - State NC – 109 Cards"....is not factual for the
following two reasons:
1st......There are not 109 possibilities, there are 103. The 6-super print were not printed with AB 460
backs (these 6 cards exist with AB 350 with frame backs).
2nd......Approx. 1/2 of the cards (55) from the 350/460 series do not exist with AB 460 backs. There-
fore, American Litho. printed approx. 75 cards with the AB 460 back.

Continuing......your......
"American Beauty (With Frame) - Series 350 - Factory 25 - District 2 - State VA – 213 Cards"

It has been confirmed that only 192 cards have been printed with the AB 350 (frame)) back.

Furthermore......your......

"Sovereign - Series 350 - Factory 25 - District 2 - State VA – 413 Cards"....is actually 285 cards

"El Principe De Gales - Factory 17 - District 2 - State VA – 470 Cards"....is actually approx. 300 cards

"Lenox (Black) - Factory 30 - District 2 - State NY – 110 Cards".....is actually approx. 67 cards

"Lenox (Brown) - Factory 30 - District 2 - State NY – 113 Cards".....is actually approx. 2 cards

"Hindu (Red) - Factory 649 - District 1 - State NY – 113 Cards".....is actually approx. 44 cards

I could provide you actual numbers for all 36 of the T-backs. But by now, with these 7 examples, I hope
I've made my point.

Remember, the toughest challenge anyone has that considers completing any of the T-brand sub-sets,
or a more ambitious master set, is to determine what cards were NOT PRINTED. And, believe me, this is
no minor task.

To all those interested : go to: oldcardboard.com , click "T-Cards", Click "T206 White Borders", go to bottom and Click "Inside T206". This was last updated by Scot Reader in May, 2009. Make a copy, it's a great resource.

My question is: What additions , if any, have been made since this publication of May, 2009 ?

If anyone has any of the card backs that are not listed in this reference then please post andprovide information and scan on this thread.

Just wish I would have bid/won that Joss. I didn't notice the back until after the auction had ended.

By the way, I love your sig line too.
