Default Cobb Green Big SMR Jump!

Posted By: RayB

The latest SMR has now listed Cobb Green Portrait at $2000. This is a $400 jump from last month's $1600 listing.
I've got my nice lowgrader (PSA 1) already which i'm really happy with.

Anybody chasing at the PSA 4 level lately to track whether PSA's SMR bump is accurate. I know Cobb's and all T-206's are hot but this is over a 20% increase. Wow!

SMR is so far behind on T206's that they will never catch up. All 4 Cobb T206's have been hot lately, but especially the green. I'll check my records, but I believe most of the PSA 4's have averaged over the 2k mark, with several sharp 40/3's coming selling in the 1500-1600 range.

Be well Brian

PS. smr Southern Leaguer prices are still waaaaaay behind the market.

I know this is showing my ignorance... I really do know a bit about the white border set, but I have not a notion of what an "SMR" is, is suspect has something to do with prices of slabbed cards. What is it?

Reality: Green Cobb PSA 4 = $3000 - $4500.

SMR should have raised the price 100%.

At least nobody can accuse them of hyping prices.

you are too young to know about this!
You need Joe Orlando to educate you on cards and values.
He knows what none of the rest of us young guys do!

Joe,
I suppose the correct answer to your question is what somebody is willing to pay for it. But I would think $4000 - $5500 would be ballpark this October once everyone is back from their vacations and paying attention. Maybe $6000 with the right exposure and if it is super nice. Probably would not fetch as much this July-August; demand seems to slow down a bit this time of year.

Hey there, BCD...

I'm 51, and trying to make it to 52. I understand what "SMR" is, I just didn't know its name nor its acronym. I've seen a couple of them. I hate slabs, and tried for the longest time to not buy a slabbed card. But I couldn't resist, some cards I was after I found slabbed. At first I hacksawed them out. Lately I've been tapping the edges of the slab with an old masonry hammer, and that works quickly and easily. And I hope that my liberating those little fellows screws up the validity of the SMR.

The hammer thing may screw up the validity of the population report, but the SMR has been, and always will be, unto itself.

Even Alan Hagar's prices seem conservative now!

Remember how everyone laughed at Alan Hager's book prices for cards about 10 or 12 years ago. I know I couldn't believe them then. Wow, I guess he did know something....

My guess is that the PSA 4 Cobb that went for $2300 in May had "problems" and is an outlier--perphaps considerably O/C? $3000 is a floor price for a nice example.
