Default Worst card you've bought?

I'm a type collector, but have trouble paying big bucks for an ugly E222 or rather boring Western Playground. What card do you hate the most but bought anyway because it was part of a set, type, whatever?

Western Playgrounds are great looking. If I remember correctly, they look simialr to 1911 Zeenuts, which I think are one of thebest looking sets ever.

I never bought anything as ugly as Lee's r302 Feller. But then cards don't ge tmuch uglier than that.

I do own a Gene Krapp Obak that truely does look like crap. Even Mark Macrae described it that way, lol.

I've sold some items in my day, which, by deduction, means I bought some hideous cards. I had a 33 Goudey Bill Dickey that resembled the Devil's coaster twice over.

I've performed chemical tests on Victorian prints, including trade cards, so, like Dr. Frankenstein, have created my share of midnight creatures.

My first Mickey Mantle card was a 1956 Topps in poor condition. I was 9 years old and it cost me a months allowance for getting the newspaper & taking out the garbage, a whole 8 dollars. I still have the card today and it's as beautiful to me now as it was then. later brian

Good point. One of the first old cards I bought as a kid was a 1957 Topps Mickey Mantle with a cigarette hole through the middle.

Bought it from a guy whose name will not be mentioned as he is a sometime contributor on this board and a very nice guy and I have never mentioned it to him. He sold me a gold background E94 Jennings (very, very tough) in EX shape. When I removed it from the plastic holder to place it with my other E94s in the mylar pocket pages, it imploded and the top left corner surface slid off.
Curiously the only other card this happened to was also an E94. I bought a dark green background Evers in EX and the same thing happened (right top this time), although not quite as bad. (Different seller by the way).
Be careful removing those E94s!

My worst purchase was a case of 1991 donruss Studio, I think I paid around $600, I'll be lucky to get $100 now. The card is uglylavender border with black and white photo. To think what vintage cards I could have bought with that money.

I don't know what possessed me but in the 3 1/2 years I ran a sportscard store (1988-1992)I bought very little new stuff, but for some reason I bought a case of that stuff.

By the way, my R302 Feller is ugly but does have his autograph on it.

I'm a HOF collector, so this question is easy for me -- my N300 Mayo McCarthy. This guy belongs nowhere near the Hall, but I spent a lot of money on this card just because some fool committee voted him in.

I also collect Tom Seaver cards, so every one of those stupid modern insert cards would fit well into the category of "mistakes" as well.

I made a recent mistake, I bought a pack of Topps 206, it cost me $4.25. Ugly cards, but I did get an A-Rod Tcardd sized card and a Honus Wagner ( I figure it must be worth a million yen). I felt like I just lost a bet and had nothing to show for my money. At least I got to see the Twins win that night, last win of the year.
