Default 100 Years of T206

Posted By: Phil

Starting next year, 2009, T206s will start becoming 100 year old baseball cards through the following 2 years as well (2009-2011). My question to the forum is what do you think will be the effect on the T206 market be, if any, of that sets 100th Anniversary?

Do you think there will be some kind of celebration with some company releasing another reprint set or something of that sort?

Will there be any type of recognition in the main stream media that may force more people into the marketplace for T206s thus driving up prices?

What will that do, if anything, to the market for T206s?

Any thoughts?

I'll say the 100th anniversary will have little to no effect on the value of T206's. It's nice for us who are already in the hobby, but I can't see non-collectors suddenly realizing how cool we are because one of our flagship issues is celebrating its centennial.

There was probably a slight increase in demand a few years ago when Topps released its T206-themed set, but I can't see collectors wanting more of that next year.

I agree with Steve on this. I don't think there will be any more of a pick up in the hobby due to the 100yr anniversary of T206 etc.....I do feel the Topps Heritage sets probably did add a little pick up in interest and no doubt some of the new card collectors started collecting vintage due to them....regards

my answers:

No

No

and

No

"Main Stream" Media is more worried about covering school shootings and crooked politians...

the only mention might be a 30 second comment by Keith Olbermann one night.

i really do not think values will go up because a set reaches the 100 year mark...

Topps already released the T206 reprints far early (four years ago?)and like the Newmanium -quite lame.

Won't be a big whoop. This year is my E102's centennial and not a single Hallmark!
