Oh damn, Kirk, those are nice!

Hank is one of my few remaining idols with Stan the Man and Ralph Kiner gone. The '54 Topps of his is just an iconic card, and I will have one soon.

My killebrew rookie. Just bought. Debating on having it graded. Not a big fan of graded cards but thought this was a nice one

Ah, so you were the one who landed that Paige! Good one. I had put in three offers, but all were auto rejected.

I was going to get the Leaf Paige that was listed yesterday but that one got bought quick! I am not sure if the one you bought was on eBay from 707 but I was going to get that one also but I waited too long. That is one card you do not wait on....now that I figured that out.

Love the Paige!

Picked this one up this weekend. A little OC, but I don't mind.

Which one sold yesterday? Didn't see it. I want to hoard that card. It is one you definitely have to jump on immediately.

Ah, just saw it was an SGC 10 on completed listings. Considering the toughness of just finding the card, in many ways any Leaf Paige is a great Leaf Paige. Yes, I grabbed the 707 one. Never saw centering and focus on the same Paige in anything that wouldn't crush my bank account lol.

It took a month and half of negotiating but I got this awesome print offset Carlton Fisk rookie. I am not a Fisk fan just like the print errors. Aslo got the regular and black spot 71 Jim Nash.

Sweet Mick 61. I came THIS close to bidding on that one as the centering was so nice. Alas I had to put everything I had into winning another card. Great pickup.

Fantastic Mantle, Dave! Cool cards posted by all! (Nice Carlton RC, Todd, and that's a killer Killebrew, CD!)

Nice grab on the Koufax, Matt -- such a classic card! One of my favorite cards from the 50s, regardless of player. I took a stab at the PSA 7 you mentioned, but I think I was 3rd or 4th underbidder, as my snipe fell a few hundo short. Typical strong PWCC price on that one.

Here's a new arrival. The original PWCC scan for this card was a bit jacked up, but the card did not disappoint once I had it in hand. Really impressed with the color, print, and registration on this one. Here's a more accurate scan, followed up with a comparison to my off-registered color variation of the same card.

Default 1958 National Sports Council Mantle

I absolutely love oddball Mantle cards and this is by far the oddest thing I have ever seen. It was described to me as a 1958 issue by National Sports Council. It is 11X14 and is printed on card stock. The bizarre part is the back. Mantle discusses at length the benefits of living in America rather than communist Russia, and it contains pictures of Stalin and other dictators.

Many thanks to Chris (pawpaw) for letting me know this even exists and for sending me a link to it. I owe you!

My latest pickup. Love the centering, coloring, and registration. If not for a single print line on the left side of the card, I am sure this would have graded higher....

Oh...picked this up too, from my Bill Goodwin. REALLY nice centering on a card that is sooooo tough to find centered. That sealed it for me. Going in the 'keeper' collection.

That is a really nice one! I have been looking for a centered 6 for the better part of the last 5 weeks without a ton of luck. That looks nicer than some if the 6s that I looked at from previous auctions when I was gathering pricing info.

That Mantle AS and Gibson are EXACTLY MY TYPES OF CARDS! What phenomenal centering and eye appeal. That Gibson has gotta be 50/50 or very damn close. It looks so much better than higher graded examples. If I saw that card I'd have been all over it. Fantastic catch.

I snagged a PSA 6 Gibson today for my '59 upgrade - I would have preferred the 5.5 listed earlier.

Default Oddball Mantles

I was pleased to add both of these to my collection today. Unfortunately, I do not know what either of them are. I saw the first one listed by a reputable seller as a unknown premium photo. I am assuming its from the 60s, but I don't know who issued it or how. I don't know a thing about the second one and have never seen it before. It was very reasonably priced, so I figured it was worth a gamble. Any insight anyone has would be greatly appreciated.

Hey buddy,

Thanks for sending this. I was not aware that it was on Keyman--I got this off of eBay. It is interesting to see that it might be from the 50s and great to hear the price I paid was fair.

Thanks guys! I've long liked this pose... sort of a pensive, even subdued version of the Mick.

Only a couple Bowmans remain to complete the Topps/Bowman Mantle run (not including all the misc All Stars/two player cards/etc). 20 years ago when I scored my first two Micks (nice '66 and '67) from a HS friend for peanuts (he wanted a few bucks to buy some jeans), I'd have never imagined I'd still be going after these things well into my 30s.

Will have to take a full group shot when done, but for now, this is the most comprehensive pic I've got taken several years ago.

Great Mantles...and love the 63 Killer (my favorite player, and great SP card)...

Alright, I hope Matt doesn't chastise me too much on the OC of this card..haha..., but after months and months of having my heart broke, missed opportunities, and thrill of the chase, I finally won a 55 Clemente I am happy with. This also completes my 1955 Topps Set. I was hoping for a more centered version, but not having any major creasing (to be consistent with my set) was more important to me. I am flat out stoked, and can't wait to hold...

I also wanted to post this. Normally I crack graded cards for my sets (outside my registered player collections) but with all the Clemente Reprints out there I am going to keep this one in jail. So I don't have a hole in the binder, I thought I would buy one of the many reprints/archive cards. Then I found this. This card frankly scares the hell out of me...it will be interesting to see in hand but this could fool a lot of folks online. What do you guys think? It was fully advertised as a reprint, zero attempts to mislead, and it was $10. I bought it for the binder -

Claims it is the same size and everything. I have yet to receive it...but wow.

Congrats on the Clemente and completing the '55 set.. great set! I think I'm in the minority, but OC never bothered me nearly as much as corner wear, creases, or surface blemishes/fading. I feel like the focus was more on clean corners when I began collecting (80's), but the hobby's shifted to centering.. That may just be my personal experience though. Regardless, I've remained similar in my conditions tastes, though have come to appreciate good centering and see it as an added bonus.

@John: Nice Clemente RC...i actually pulled mine out yesterday, and gazed at it, while searching for a card (52 BerkRoss Dimaggio) i just sold. Sorry, but i had to go with centered on mine Clemente. As for the RP, i wish they never made them.
I been thinking of buying a dealers showcase or a wall hanging one, cant decide, and bothers me about puting expensive cards in them in case of a fire.

@ Ian: Very Nice 52 Bowman Mantle...i have a lower-end one and displays nicely.

Guys,..my skin is a itching, auctions are ending and i have some cash to spend to feed my need. What will it be this time? I bidded on that nice Maris RC in HA, but exceeded my expectations. It may be vintage, or maybe football. Who knows? When i find it, it be calling for me. Sometimes good things are worth the wait.

Very tough card to find centered, been looking for years, Also focused with no snow storm on black uniforms of Mantle and Berra.

A card I've been wanting for a LONG time. Finally, one beat to hell enough to fall into my price range... I'm always a little weary of cards beat this badly, but now that it's in hand, I can say that it's legit. Somebody just had a lot of fun with it..
