Default N172 Observation - pose reprints in subsequent years while with same team

Posted By: Joe_G.

I noticed while viewing some of the Library of Congress N172s that Sam Thompson's 1887 card (OJ #0487, SCD #456-3a) was reprinted in 1888 while still with Detroit. So the same pose, arms folded, SCD #456-3a, applies to two different cards, an 1887 "0" card as well as an 1888 type 2 card.

My question then becomes, how common is this? The 9 Detroit players shown on 1887 N172s have a total of 28 cards (OJ #s 0481 - 0508). Approximately, how many would you guess were re-issued cards in 1888 (all players except Stump Weidman remained with Detroit for 1888)? A couple?, 50%?, 100% of the 8 players that remained with Detroit?

Just curious.

Joe--If you get your hands on the British Cartophilic Society listing of Old Judge it will provide the information you are looking for.
