Default Help on I.D. of Philadelphia Team

OK this one has me stumped. Can anyone ID this Philadelphia Team?

Based on the style it would appears to be around 1900 which is consistent with the style of the caps and the "PHILA" on the front which was not used after that. Then again my "facial recognition" skills cant pick out Delahanty or LaJoie.

Its a beautiful 9 x 13 matte finished photo our consignor identified as 1901.

Any feedback or help would be appreciated.

Doug

Pretty sure that's Elmer Flick, middle row, third from left.

He was with the Phillies from 1898-1901. So perhaps this is a little earlier?

The man in street clothes in the middle looks like Billy Shettsline, who managed the Philadelphia NL team 1898-1902, which would square with the Flick ID.

That could be Nap, bottom row, second from right. Can we get a better and closer image of that player?

and with a better resolution image, we might be able to see if this is Ed Delahanty (middle row, far left)...

The presence of Jimmy Slagle (seated front 2nd from left) and the uniform style dates this to 1900 (it is Phila NL).

Monte Cross had a mustache back in the 'ol days (1890's):

And still sported it as an Athletic (1901-04);

So, I'm "assuming" one of the two mustached players is Cross (leaning toward standing right) .................

Slagle also played part of 1901 with the Phillies, so perhaps that's more likely the year, since Lajoie was gone to the AL then and he doesn't seem to be in this photo.

Yes - it is likely 1901 as indicated by the presence of Doc White (standing 3rd from left), Happy Townsend (standing 2nd from right), and Bill Duggleby (middle row far right) combined with the presence of Slagle. I haven't seen this image before. Flick and Delahanty are present.

Standing:
Al Orth - ? - Doc White - Bert Conn - Joe Dolan - Jack Dunn - Red Donahue - ? - Monte Cross - Happy Townsend - ?
middle row:
Klondike Douglass - Ed McFarland - Elmer Flick - Bill Shettsline - Fred Jacklitsch - Ed Delahanty - Bill Duggleby
seated:
? - Jimmy Slagle - Roy Thomas - Harry Wolverton
