Default Registering for an auction for the first time

I am attempting to register for an auction for the first time because I see an item that I would like to bid on. The problem is I have never bid in an auction (besides eBay, and the BST), and they require 2 auction house references. What do I do?

Just put ebay and net54 for your references, that should work. Also, call them on the phone and they will help you

I would call them on the phone and explain your situation. I would think many would be ok once they get to know you.

The first auction house I registered with was REA. They called me within an hour of receiving my registration and since I hadn't registered with any other auction houses, simply asked me to name a couple hobby references, ie NET54 members with whom I'd done deals. It was about a 3 minute conversation and then I was registered. Auction houses realize that we all have to start somewhere.

A good ebay record counts as reference with auction houses.

I tried to register for Legendary, but they denied me.

I promptly took my money elsewhere

Their loss.

Marvin, that is weird. Must have been a mixup.

You're right Joe, maybe it was, but I didn't want to spend my time trying to convince whomever that I could actually afford a lot or two. It's okay though, I let it go No biggie

Buy from a well known dealer who will testify you paid your bills, and that should count as a good reference. Perhaps you've already bought from such a person on this board.

The auction houses want evidence that you're a buyer who legitimately pays your bills.

Pay me $30 and I'll be a reference. I'll testify you paid your bill. $40 for a glowing reference.

I still say call them if you really want to bid, much more personal.

There are many reputable auction houses and I would definitely go with one of the larger ones, they usually get the most money for your items because of their exposure. You are just going to need to do some due-diligence on your end by calling them to see who will give you the best commission.

I'm looking to bid, not consign.
