Very slow for me as well. I got three bids in and might make a fourth, but it doesn't look good. I'm hoping for two wins if possible.

Impossibly slow! If it having problems now, how will it do on closing. I'd suggest Bob getting involved.

Super slow and got timed out many times. Probably their hosing company wasn't prepared for the volume. Stopped bidding do to frustration.

Thanks to all who've posted their nice comments, publicly and privately, about this auction. We worked extremely hard on compiling it and feel it is one of the best REA auctions ever.

As far as the site speed is concerned, this appears to have been a problem that affected some customers for a short period of time. No one is on our site more than we are, and we were navigating it fine, all while trying to diagnose issues for our customers. The recent bids page (http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/lots/bids) shows that bids were coming in rapidly (every few seconds) since the auction opened at 5 PM so many users were bidding without issue. We were aware of the issues and worked with our software administrator and server companies to determine the problem. It was discovered that a malicious IP address from a foreign country was attempting to access the server and was overwhelming it with multiple attempts every second. The attempts were never successful and nothing was ever compromised (or even in jeopardy of being compromised), but it was manifesting itself as loads and loads of traffic. This is the first time this has ever happened to our server, and the server company has blocked this country (we are confident this will affect no bidders) and added an additional level of firewalling beyond what's already in place.

The site is working very quickly right now after these changes have been made. With 26 days left to place initial bids, and almost certainly nothing going to sell for the price that it's at today, I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities to get back in there and do some bidding. Our servers are prepared for multiples of the already-heavy traffic we receive. We've taken in more bids in the first five hours than some auctions take in during their entire duration, so I know we will be well equipped to handle whatever traffic comes our way.

We appreciate everyone's patience and look forward to an incredible auction!

Thirty-four bids already on the E135 Ruth. The card started at $2,500 and is currently at $27,500. The M101-5 Babe has gone from $100,000 to $210,000 the first day.

That Ruth rookie sold for $191K just 13 months ago. I see a lot of turnover on these m101s.

I know. I was making two two separate observations of things I noticed when browsing the auction. I didn't mean to conflate the two cards. Sorry for not being clear.

Bids on 33 lots. I am now winning....1

Such was the plan as I was wanting to get early markers down so that I can be strategic at closing based upon what I need intersected with the best value.

Going to be a fun month!!

(P.S. I am out of town this week and have texted my wife about 10 times to see if a catalog has arrived yet. When she tells me no, I ask for the email list of the neighbors so I can send out a nasty note accusing them of stealing it off of my porch - she is actually frightened that I might do it )

I guess the bad news is I plan to attempt to spend a lot of money. But the good news is if I succeed plenty of cards will be for sale.

Just had a quick question, does anyone know how I can view a list of just lots I am winning? When I go to my bids, I can see everything I bid on, but can't figure out how to sort/limit that list based on whether I am the top bidder or not.

Thanks
DJ

Old Judges are going great guns. People are starting to realize that any Old Judge poses, regardless of the player, are scarcer than the T206 Wagner. Not comparing value--just saying.

Wagner is more of a social status card which many collectors would like to have but don't lose any sleep over not having it. I guess the the word got out on 19th century. 5 years from now we might not be able to say "It's too rare for its own good" or "rarity, doesn't always equal to value" Now that we have the POP or an estimate of POP on many issues, we most likely will see an uptick on actual rare cards.

I see a few of my former cards listed including the 1907 Seamless Steel Tube Cobb and 1954 Johnston Hank Aaron Auto. Interesting to see how the prices have or have not changed since I sold them barely a year ago lol

Surprising it would surface as quickly as it did. Most likely same bidders on it from when it was in BST auctions. (Hi Dan)

I'm taking this in slowly, like sipping a fine brandy.

So far, I'm up to the Goudey Gehrigs and the '54 Topps Aaron in the featured items section, and I'm drooling all over the place like one of Pavlov's dogs. Seriously, it's not pretty.

If you're a Ty Cobb fan, especially, you've got to be absolutely floored right now. The T206 Bat Off Shoulder with the Uzit back is damned sexy, and then there's the gooooorgeous Turkey Red. Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and all the Saints. Put those two cards side by side. The colors are spectacular. No modern card touches these. The old ways are the best.

And I'd gladly give my left nut for the PSA 8 '34 Goudey Gehrig portrait.

I know I've said it before, but a month is just too damm long for an auction to be open. We all rush the first few days and place a bunch of bids and then just wait till the end of the auction to reengage. What's the point of a month long auction? I am sure they are hoping media attention brings in fresh blood and all that, but it just lulls me to sleep frankly.

The people that can afford the big ticket items take long vacations.

have you called or emailed the auction houses to share your thoughts. I'm sure they welcome suggestions on how to run a better auction.

^^^ was just thinking that. A week or 10 days is plenty of time. Preferably a week....

They want to give you time to sell off stuff to bid even higher on their auction.

+10.

People bid at the beginning and the last couple days. The difference between a 14 day auction and 30 auction is 16 more days of non bidding.

I assume the guy who posts here from RE sees people's comments as well as you do. And obviously they have reasons for doing it that they believe are valid, regardless of how they might irk me personally. Just blowing off steam. I think 15or so days is more than adequate to get whoever is going to come to the table to the table.
