Gehrig was born in 1903. If he is 1 (and he looks about 2-3) in that picture that makes it a 1904 cabinet. That mount looks older than that to me.

Isn't Lou Gehrig's full name Henry Louis Gehrig, not Ludgwig Heinrich Gehrig?

EK: I stand corrected regarding Gehrig's name. I can't tell if that is his picture.

He was definitely of German descent. I remember reading a biography that described the anti-German sentiment he faced when he was young.

There is wear around the edges of the card and there is wear showing to the writing in the name BUT why isn't there more wear to the "L" in Ludwig? That "L" is close to the lower left hand corner of the card and wouldn't one expect the corners of the card to be the area where people would hold it the most?

Also, if Gehrig's name can be found so easily on Baseball Reference then how hard would it be to find an old cabinet card from a New York photographer of a baby and then add a block letter name on the back?

Also, why block letters? Didn't most people use pens with metal jibs which allowed them to write so fanciful back then?

The name was printed with a pencil stencil. Did those even exist back then?

Default Gehrig

I wish I would have seen this earlier. So any ear, nose and .. specialists out there?

1) Gehrig pre-1 year old
2) Ebay item I would guess he is around 2
3) Last one he is btwn 4-5

I see similarities(lips, nose and big forehead) and differences hair(does that change??) and chubbiness/size(that changes too I guess-although I tell people I still have my baby fat to this day).

That early id'd photo in the book looks like him in the ebay lot to me, so that means it's probably not him. I might be the worst person on the board at photo id....
