This is what I would do. It has long been considered a gorgeous card and popular highlight of the '53 set, Paige is the most famous of the Negro League players, and only has 4 real cards of him. Exhibits have never been popular (though I like them), his 49 Leaf is almost impossible to even find, much less purchase for $1,000, and his 1949 Bowman is pretty ugly and expensive already. I think the 53 Paige is about as secure an investment choice as any 50's card and has a lot of room to go up |

I agree on the Satchel Love this Card. One in my PC that isn’t the usually 4 I collect.

For 1K you can get a pretty nice 52 Red Man Ted Williams. One of the nicest cards of the postwar era IMO. At 1K whatever you buy you aren't going to strike it rich so get something timeless. This sold not long ago for under 900.
Or get a 54 Ted #1, or even 250.

I'd buy the nicest '53T Mays that $1000 can buy. Or maybe a '52T Mays.
Personally, I think Willie's cards are undervalued.

I would go for one of the following (not in order of importance)
- mid grade Paige and Jackie - Red Heart Mantle - the nicest 54 Aaron you can find - the nicest 54 Bowman Williams you can find the list could go on and on, as 1K is a good, fun number to go on a spree! Good luck and post what you get!

Too each their own, but the 1949 Bowman's are not usually considered an aesthetic highlight of post-war vintage. Crudely colorized black and white photos don't do it for me, and I'm not alone here. I do not think many collectors will say the 49 Bowman looks better than his 53 Topps.

Ditto. My 1949 Bowman Lou Boudreau is one of my favorite cards. Love the colors.

When I had the money for a nice Paige, I went with the ‘49 Bowman. I really like the colors and the pose - have seen the pose elsewhere as it is semi famous.
