Default The REAL Single-Season HR Champ? Show Your Maris Items

Yesterday was no surprise to anyone.

But it puts Maris' achievement in greater perspective.

Here's a few of mine - let's see yours.

1961 Game Used H&B Maris Bat
From the 1961-1964 labeling period. Ordered by Maris on March 31, 1961.
(I believe he only used this model (O16) during April, during which he only hit one homerun)

Default Awesome stuff, Jimmy...

That 61 shot is just gorgeous!

I'll post the one of Maris leaning against the Babe's monument later.

Bud Selig is going to have an awfully hard time with "moving on" in the best interests of the game, without confronting the past first. Hard to do one without addressing the other.

Also, on a related note, a great read and perspective...at the end, you'll also recognize the photo.

Here's a different bit of artwork from Jennifer. She has done a series of these , in which the image of the player is photocopied, and surrounded with relevant collaged text from a discarded baseball magazine. The photocopy image is reversed, so that when the viewer looks in the mirror, we see the true reflection of our heroes from the past.

What I think is the most underrated player endorsed game. I love the box and the colorful game board. I never understood why these are so cheap.

Interesting that Topps used the image of Maris' 61st to depict the 9th inning blast of the third World Series game...

I agree with Ben, great pick-up Jimmy!

And by the way Ben, you weren't lying when you said you're a Maris fan. I like the whole concept of the 1961 season theme. Now, all you need is a cut from Sal Durante!

Jeff, the Maris matting is top notch. I would have never thought to do something like that...but may have to borrow that idea in the future

Default Maris Matting

A good framer can do wonderful things if you are patient and don't mind paying for the expertise. I actually cut a "home plate" template at home for him to use that was large enough to show all of the Maris autograph which was a cut from a scorecard but yet small enough to cover the adjoining signatures. I was thrilled with the way it turned out. Thanks for the compliments.
