Default 1887-90 Old Judge N172 - Captain John Ward HOF - NY NL

I am in the pursuit of a John Ward card.
I came across this on Ebay
1887-90 Old Judge N172 - Captain John Ward HOF - NY NL

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4125886598&category=31719&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT&rd=1

Since my experience has been mostly in the Topps 1970 to 1990 range, and all of my experience has been via shows...no internet purchases, I wonder if anyone can provide some feedback on this card and its claim to be original.

The seller says it is and he has many postive feedbacks. But on a random checking of feedback, I only found sales of graded cards. This one is not graded, and the back is non-existent.

I have heard that reprint cards say "reprint", but I wonder if that is the case for all of them. I know there are reprints of many many different sets.

Well...thanks from a first-time-poster.

Billy

It's trimmed, skinned, and beat to death, but I'd say its real.

Thanks for such a quick response, Kenny.
It sure it beat up...but that's the only way I could afford one.

Mind if I ask what you based your feedback on? Is there something you know about Old Judge cards?

Thanks again,

Billy

Elliot,

Thanks for your feedback.

I guess you guys have some inside jokes that I may someday catch onto, but for now I must ask "What is a Jeff S special"?

I know the guy selling the card is not named Jeff.

Thanks,

Billy

Good God ... those "Jeff S. cards" are painful to look at!

They look as if they have been tortured on purposed.

A ha! Thanks for filling me in.

Those Jeff S cards are up my affordability alley.

I guess buying poor poor condition cards is a catch 22. It seems that the way to be sure a card is original is if its graded, but I don't believe they grade cards is very poor poor shape.

Again, much obliged.

Billy

I'd say if the Ward price stays low, it would be worth snagging. If matted and framed creatively, it could make an attractive and unique display piece.

Thanks for all the help. I put in a bid and lost. Based on the price it sold for, I was the 2nd highest bidder but of course I don't know how the high winning bidders high bid was.

I'll keep my eyes open for some sort of Ward card in off condition from the pre-1900's. One day...

that's one of the nicest skinned, trimmed cards I've seen. Why not go for it? But I didn't, and you didn't go high enough...
