Although he may not remember or even know this...

I was first pointed to N54 by Bruce Babcock.

Not sure if I ever gave him a proper thanks.... so..... thanks Bruce!

I had a Matty D304... but did not really know what the card was... so I googled "Mathewson Butter Krust"....
google pointed me to Bruce's site and I emailed him.

He was very cool and gave me a very nice email response about the card, about grading,
and also told me about this forum.

I checked it out - have have been visiting ever since.

pointed me in the direction of the original Full Count board. I've been reading ever since, and posting when I feel like it.

I sometimes feel like Leon could be the next U Thant whilst reading this board

the fullcount days.......used to have equally spirited conversations there and wandered over here with Eliot, then Bill, and now grand imperial potentate Leon.....glad to be here with all of them still intact. Hard to believe it's been 5+ years here and a couple at fullcount board before that! What would I do at work otherwise?

I was doing a google search, looking for a good New York restaurant? Actually, a few years ago, someone directed me to this forum. It seems an Ebay item that I had listed was a topic of a thread. It seems that I had an unrealistic BIN on it. Since then, I read this forum nearly every day.

and said that there was a date controversy on Net54 regarding the "1948 or 1949" LEAF
baseball cards. And, he felt I could resolve the debate.

So, I responded to this great Forum and provided my expertise on this set.

The man, the myth, the legend Leon, himself, directed me to the Board in 2001 when I contacted him while doing research.

The same way I find everything else....Google. I was just getting interested in T206's and wanted to find out more information on them (probably around 2001). My frist stop was T206 museum, but I figured there had to be more out there. The rest they say....

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I also collect Sports board games so I saw a reference to this forum during the investigation of the mystery of the Billy Owen Fan Craze card on the Yahoo Baseball Games group.

Anybody else here play APBA, Strat-O-Matic or any other baseball board game? Playing these games fit nicely with collecting old baseball cards and a fascination with the history of the sport.

I played far too much Strat-O-Matic as a kid, a little APBA, but stopped playing when I read Robert Coover's The Universal Baseball Association, JJ Waugh, Prop.

I got an e-mail from someone a while back
I had some old judges I was selling on e-bay
the e-mail said I was getting slammed by this forum
about how I was handling my business
I sent responses to as many as I could but
couldn't make everyone happy
but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of happy
collectors that won those cards
remember these ??

I was looking for information on T206 backs and came across a response here and I was forever hooked. This was roughly fifteen months ago.

Robert Coover is great.

When cardtarget.com started selling partial shares of vintage and rare cards there were references to this forums. It started with references to discussions on broadleaf 460's which cardtarget.com has 3 of and on a few other cards they sold shares in. Those references lead me here; there program has caused me to look at vintage cards I never would have in the past.

I was just getting into the whole message board thing over at the beckett boards a few years ago. The vintage participation over there is minimal and the prewar is basically non-existant. One day someone on those boards asked if there was a better place to talk about old cards and someone replied with a link to N54. I checked it out and was hooked immediately. I've been a regular-lurker-sometimes-poster ever since.

Thanks to all who share their knowledge and collections. You make the hobby more fun for me and I'm sure for others as well.

do you remember those emails that you sent me??? you know who you are

Still read the Full Count archives now and then, sometimes it seems like such a long time ago......

I inherited a partial T206 collection almost three years ago. I wanted to know more about these, and started getting hits on N54 threads on google. Came here, learned much more here than anywhere else.

My first actual purchase was Feb 2006. I started with commons and didn't go after the more valuable cards until I had experience with fronts, backs, ebay, grading, trimming, etc. Common topics here. I still made mistakes, but not as bad as I could have. I have now completed the set minus 6: Wagner, Plank, Doyle, Magie, and the two St Louis rarities. Never have sold a card.

Bob- it was actually Ringo, from "A Hard Day's Night". The interviewer asked him how he found America, thus his response.

Found it just surfing the web. Don't remember specifics tho'.

Barry-I stand corrected. Remember it being a Beatles line and I guess it just seemed like something Lennon was most likely to say.

You were in the right ballpark, and John was always sharp. My favorite: about 1963 the Beatles were interviewed and asked what instruments they played. After George said he played the guitar, John replied: "I too play the guitar...and sometimes I play the fool."

Richard- don't you feel that if you don't look for an hour or two you are going to miss something important, like a fight for instance? Come to think of it, I think Jay Miller was the one who first told me about it. Now I'm an addict too. Thanks Jay !
